We were directed to take a seat on arrival and waited over 15 minutes to be served before finding out there was no table service. I would def encourage staff to be more communicative to patrons on arrival. Hence the average rating rather than very good
I do not usually write reviews unless I feel strongly one way or the other, and I have to say, this place did not disappoint! During a recent trip to Canberra from the Yarra Valley, my family dined at this restaurant twice – once for lunch and once for breakfast. I can confidently say that the Gryphon pizza was the best I have ever had, and the breakfast was just as good as my favorite local cafe back home. The coffee was great, and they had an impressive selection of beer and wine. The service was excellent as well. We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident, but we are so glad we did.
Arrived here for a relaxing quality beer, the service was great. The footy on the multiple screens but not loud so we could have a good chat without the TV banter , food was both fast and fresh, generally clean and well looked after. Pints ~$9
This place is our local. Great chips & the calamari is mostly sensational. It tries to be the best, a gastropub, good wines and beers. Little things stop it getting there. Orders often come out a bit wrong. There is a lot of maple and sugar on the mains and salad menu (less is more needed?) and Thai salad not actually Thai (thick Hoi sin glaze). The burger buns are hard to eat. But I'm rooting for you Gryphons! I want you to be the best.
A friend raised the possibility of trying Gryphons in the Griffith shops. Having previously lived in canberra for many years I realised I had never been to the Griffith shops so thought why not? The facade and entrance are basic sports bar or pub which leads to quite a surprise when you read the menu. Its all very new age with vegetarian and gluten free options readily available. Even more surprising was the excellent espresso based coffee...generally an after thought in a pub. I went for the Gryphon pizza which is basically a carnivores delight and was well cooked and packed with various meats. Service seemed more aligned with the pub background being short and to the point, nothing wrong with that.I'll be going back to try breakfast this weekend given there were some tasty options on the menu and the coffee alone is worth the trip.
