Checked into the hotel across the street a little after 8pm tonight after driving from St. John’s. After close to 9 hours in the car, just wanted to pick up something that wasn’t fast food and eat in our room. A friend had recommended this place. I found a menu online and picked 2 simple items. Called the restaurant and asked if I could place a take out order. Was told yes, no problem. Ordered a bruschetta flatbread and a Caesar salad to share. I was expecting to be told at least 20-30 minutes before we could get our food, ut was told 10-15 minutes- perfect! 15 minutes later, left the hotel and walked over. When we got there- the waitress snapped “you here for a pick up order? What is it?” We told her. She said- it hasn’t been started yet- kitchen was slammed and had just gotten a bunch of orders in from the pub downstairs. I asked if we should wait, or come back in a bit- once again thinking 20-30 minutes. She said, yes, come back in 10 minutes. Not a “sorry for the delay” not “let me check with the kitchen” or even an apology for putting orders that had just come in ahead of out take out order. We decided to take a little stroll along the boardwalk, read the signs, took some pictures, etc and headed back to pick up our food, 15 minutes after we left. We walked into the place again, only to have the waitress just blurt out “your food isn’t started yet”. By this point we were just tired and hungry. I asked if she knew how much longer it would be and was told that she had no idea in a very snarky tone. She then just looked at me- no, “I’m sorry”, no, “we’re busier than expected”, nothing but silence. I just said, so you have no idea when it will be ready then. All we got was No. Didn’t offer to check with the kitchen, just looked at me. I then said so should we just cancel our order. The answer was, yes, probably. I was shocked at our treatment. In an environment where service industry employers and employees are still trying to recover from Covid impacts and seemingly desperate to recover by re-establishing relationships. I figured common courtesy should at least be expected. This is one hungry, tired, former potential customer, who won’t ever darken the doors again. They have no idea how to treat a customer. A Caesar salad and bruschetta flatbread really should have been an easy meal, but apparently not.
Horrible place with terrible service and waiter. There are extremely rude. Was told by a worker that’s we could come and eat in if it was before 8 because 2-3 people were 18. The man waiter was extremely rude and turned us away immediately. To make this situation worst we saw 4 girls sat at a table that were only 13-15 years old sat down and eating. Better to take your money elsewhere cause this place is terrible.
A very average place. Food was very average but overpriced. I paid $32 for a burger and two pops and sharing an app. Service was also not overly friendly. My friend asked for a recommendation and was denied by the server. The speed was also a little slower than expected. The atmosphere is nice and the view on the water is lovely. This place has potential to be really great but just isn’t there right now. I would eat here again if I had to but I would actively seek it out again.
The 1 Ton Pub is right on the harbor walkway, next to some gift shop kiosks for tourists and a concert stage. If you arrive early for the ferry, this is definitely a comfortable and convenient place to kill some time. (Note: if you try to come in from the street side, you have to walk down a flight of steps to get to the pub. There is another restaurant on top that does not serve alcohol. The menu offers the usual suspects, but the burgers are good and portions are generous. I recommend that you take advantage of the great location and go outside to take a walk along the waterside. There's some interesting signage about the history of the ferry at the north end of the walkway.
