While Mary Brown's is in Newfoundland what Tim's coffee is in Canada, the consistency of her chicken is missing all over the island. In St. John's, however, it's pretty good when you enter outport communities, their chicken tends to be dry and inconsistent.
We were in NFLD for about 2 wks. We stopped at Mary Browns a few times as one that could be trusted for cleanliness, service. This place was the worst place we ate at in 2 weeks, my worst review for sure. This one I...wanted to get out to warn others. We arrived Aug 6/15 and were hungry, we found the place is run by kids. My wife and I ordered our meal and asked and paid extra for white meat. We never received what we paid for. As we ate in we observed an older lady working her butt off in back and 4 kids sitting at the table on their cellphones and such. It was later in the day. The place needed to be swept and there was hardly a person in the place only us and a few others. Opportune time to pick up a broom. As the workers, kids, sat around laughing and carrying on with one lady cooking , no one at cash, I observed 4 cars in the drive thru. The washroom was filthy and we noticed the baby chairs. Hardened food and grease all over them, I would be afraid a kid would pick up germs from the chairs. Contrast this place to other Mary Browns we ate at during our stay, which were clean, friendly, helpful to the customers which these kids were not, these teens (asside from one, he did get up to help with that line up outside but he was obviously over ruled) reminded me of my own when asked to cut the lawn. They all needed a good boot in the butt. Anyway f there was a way to describe this asside from a number I would classify it as a dive.
Can't go wrong with a feed of taters and gravy! Best legs in town too ; The gravy is vegetarian as well!!
The bid Mary sandwiches were very tasty with a large piece of breaded white meat. The pouting though was really extra salty and we did not add any extra salt. Could not eat it.
