The Middlesex Diner serves up large portions of good quality classic diner fare with a huge menu to choose from. Our chicken tenders, eggplant parm and turkey dinner hit the spot for dinner during our quick stopover in Carlisle.
I have come here before, but only for breakfast. The breakfast was decent. Stopped in tonight for dinner and my friend and I both got the pot roast. It was like someone put chunky dog food on a plate. My sides were fries and stuffing. It’s hard to screw up fries, but they were lukewarm at best. The stuffing’s consistency was like watered down paste. It was like mashed potatoes, but it was stuffing. It just didn’t have any texture resembling any kind of stuffing I’ve ever had. My friend had the same thing, but had cole slaw instead of stuffing which tasted like nothing, according to him. Our server was scattered. I asked for a Pepsi and we asked for rolls. She brought us out peaches. We got boxes for our food, but decided that even the outdoor animals in the neighborhood didn’t need to be subjected to that garbage, so we left the food there. It was horrible.
Don’t believe the great reviews for this place. It’s just a greasy spoon. I had breakfast there on a recent Saturday morning while passing through Carlisle. While the service was fine, the food was way below par for a diner. The scrambled eggs were just okay, nothing special, the bacon was greasy and rubbery, and the potatoes were room temperature and plain. The English muffin was untoasted and also room temperature, and the butter that came on the side was margarine. The coffee was exactly what you expect from diner coffee: weak, watery and bland. All this for a mere $13 with tip. Tripadvisor rates this as the top diner in Carlisle and the #6 overall restaurant in the area, but don’t believe it. It’s just crummy diner food, and rather disappointing diner food at that.
Stopped in on October 12 for breakfast. Haven’t been here in 2 year’s. The home fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil. The bacon was overcooked and over moicrowaved, the eggs were very rubbery. Very let down. The pork chop was full of gristle. Absolutely unacceptable! So sad!
