We firstly asked for some bread, which in most establishments is complimentary, but was $3 for ONE slice, per person. We then ordered our main meals. After 40-45 minutes we had to ask where our meals were. After around another 10 minutes we finally got them. I had the fillet steak, which was a rather small serving, with a few little garnishings on it. The other three people ordered various meals which were also so small. My meal was about $42, which I felt was extremely overpriced for what we got. Thankfully, the voucher saved us some money, but, as far as value for money, I would not recommend this establishment. I realise the setting is very nice etc, but I also have to see value for money, even with a voucher.
Beautiful lunch, Happy friendly staff, great view, great wines, great food, what more could you ask for?
Having visited Riverbank twice before and having enjoyed two very nice lunches and bought some excellent wine, we booked lunch for four for Saturday. It being the first Saturday of the month we were advised that there would be a live jazz band playing - which was not a problem as, although it is by no means a favourite genre of music for any of us, it would have been unobtrusive enough. The problems started on arrival just after 12:30. Initially it took more than 5 minutes for anyone to greet us and check the booking. Then, on asking if we were able to patronise the 'cellar door' to taste a few wines before lunch, we were informed that as it was the first Saturday and the live music was in progress, the usual cellar door was not in operation, but were were welcome to visit the temporary cellar door across the road. On presenting to the temporary cellar door we discovered a very limited range of wines available for tasting - and these were certainly not the best that experience has taught us Riverbank can produce. As we left the cellar door we were informed that meal entertainment cards and the extertainment book would not be accepted on this particular day. After a quick discussion we decided to find somewhere else to eat.All such a pity, because if, at the time of booking, we had been told all this we would have postponed our trip to another day.
Bit of a jerk move by Riverbank. Told us that we had to buy two courses per person (ie: $65 or up each) or we couldn't eat there because there was a special event on. After that kind of spend, food didn't live up to the hype. Go to Mandoon instead.
I happened across this gem in the Entertainment Book and it didn't disappoint. The setting is in a location where the boys detention centre used to be situated. This is long gone and it is a quiet street apart from the traffic visiting the winery and restaurant. The cellar is across the road from the restaurant with parking on both sides of the road. The restaurant is cosy and heated ( we visited on a cold blustery rainy day) but the outside verandahs were enclosed with plastic sheeting to protect us from the elements. It had a rustic charm and apparently had new owners who are soon to start renovations.Service was swift and staff polite and hrlpful. They knew the menu and wines and were able to give sound advice. The meals were well presented and extremely tasty. The desserts were mouth watering. Truly a great effort from the chef. We all are very impressed. Nothing to fault here and it was very handy to be able to apply discounts through our entertainment books.
