Actual rating: 4.5/5<br/ Overjoyed to receive an email noting that there had been a cancellation and I was IN! I had screwed up the booking app (being a first time user) and had to resort to waitlisting for every possible date. But my efforts had paid off and here was a chance, at last, to sample the legendary Marumo by Moe Oo...<br/ <br/ I cannot fault the cooking and attention to detail. Courses were well timed, each individual dish made sense by itself and within the omakase progression. Starting with the appetizer of ameabi buri we moved to a sublime dish of duck, mushroom and miso egg yolk which was a silky, thick flavour bomb. <br/ <br/ Next came a beautifully textured tofu dish with rice puff balls, an excellent plate of superb quality sashimi, innovative sushi (once again, playing mostly with the textures to enhance the experience), and an exquisitely tender beef dish that paid homage to the original steak onion but was much, much tastier. The only slightly disappointing dish was the dessert of shio koji, popcorn and chestnut which looked beautiful but tasted mostly like sweet breakfast cereal. I think something slightly more thoughtful could have been used to round out what was otherwise a perfect succession of dishes. <br/ <br/ Definitely will come back. For $70 it is certainly great value and I can confirm that the hype is (mostly) justified one of the top meals in Perth provided you can be bothered to fight for a table!!
Fantastic service. Staff had excellent attention to detail from working out if I was drinking wine to putting the wine we brought on ice. <br/ <br/ Menu was placed on the table and each meal was described to each person when served. Again attention to detail to each plate and cutlery was provided for different courses. Hidden Gem of Perth. Omg <br/ <br/ Thank you for making my birthday very memorable. And we will be back for more.
This restaurant is tops. Lovely, unobtrusive service, beautifully prepared food, and really really reasonably priced. Fortunate to have eaten there twice now and look forward to returning.
Marumo is one of Perth’s best degustation restaurants, and its price tag of $70 per person makes eating there even more of a coveted experience. Securing a booking there has become a monumentally difficult task, as bookings are only released every few months and tend to be booked out within the first minute or so of being released.
