I was at your establishment this past Tuesday, August 23. I purchased several cakes to share with the nurses at the NICU at MUSC where my granddaughter was a patient. The waitress was very helpful and encouraged me to include the carrot cake in my order. I did purchase it and it was on my receipt (with a very generous tip) however it was not in my bag when I unpacked it. I believe it was an honest mistake, my issue is that when I tried to call to let them know I discovered that they do not answer their phone...ever!!! I called many many times Tuesday afternoon, evening and Wednesday morning! The answering machine states that they are busy and do not listen to their voicemails. It directed me to leave an email, which I did. I received a robo-email stating that they do not answer emails but they forwarded me an order form. The cakes were good and if I would've gotten all the cakes I paid for I would've given 4 or 5 stars. If management from Carmella's sees this and wants to do something nice they can send some cakes to MUSC NICU Lily section in honor of our baby Ella.
Cute location. Nice venue. Good location. Bar and desserts. Coffees was ok, dessert looks great but very disappointed in the taste. Couldn't eat it. Ordered the toasted Carmel puff. Not tasty. Location gets a nice vibe. Only stop if you want a drink and a moment to cool off.
The cakes I've had from here have both been decadent! The hummingbird cake had a good amount of spices and was so moist. The espresso martini was also great and had a nice foamy layer. Be prepared to wait in line if you come on the weekend during the summer. This is a popular spot. We were still able to find a table during a busy time since people don't stay long with it being a dessert spot. Everything is self serve unless you sit at the bar.
I was told that Carmella's was a MUST stop while visiting Charleston. If you're in the area you must try it! Not too sweet and the cakes are shareable! My only regret was only getting one.
