We had the rabbit roulade and the steak w wild mushrooms, but just as good as the main courses were the lamb dumpling appetizers. It was also a beautiful, refined atmosphere with top notice service.
We had a 5:45 pm reservation tonight an early dinner on a chilly Tuesday night in December. For some inexplicable reason, we were seated up a looong flight of stairs at a table for two in the corner of a looong empty room, in what was, at that hour, an empty restaurant. Why? Our server was ill prepared but attentive, so no real complaints on that score. I ordered a dry martini with 2 olives, which tasted like they had been frozen and barely defrosted. I couldn’t eat them. Appetizers (grilled oysters and a Caesar salad) and entrees (a nouveau type pasta and “snowy” grouper, whatever that is) were good but not great. No desserts, and a bill in excess of $180. Not a restaurant we would bother trying again.
Husk is a difficult place to get a reservation, but next door is a charming old Husk bar that will provide a limited menu. Walking in is like stepping back in time as the buildings character is so early 1800's. The bar is not large, but there are tables upstairs for larger groups. All that is imssing is a fireplace. We ordered the specialty Hell's Belles, the Freehouse brown and a Crown on the rocks. The ladder two were very good. We requested a mild Hell's as we were told it was hot. Even at a so called third reduction, it could make your eyes water. Not bad for a colder night, but not the best choice. We ordered the snapper crudo and a basket of fries as a snack. The crudo was very good, but not a generous portion. All told it was a pleasurable way to wind down an evening!
The server was very prompt. I ordered American loger, a Husk double cheeseburger and fries and to go bisquits with honey butter to go. It was delishes
This is an adorable spot in downtown Charleston. We felt welcome and our server was very kind. They take great care in using local food. My partner had a pork pastrami sandwich. I had a type of duck hash (can't remember the name). We shared apple beignets. My partner also had a tasty mimosa. For those who visiting for the first time, there is a garage a short walk down the street where you can park. For those who need special access, there are stairs to get into the restaurant, but there is a special access bathroom. It would seem easy to accommodate those with walkers or wheelchairs once up the stairs. We were there in December and it was a bit rainy, but it looks like there may be limited outdoor seating in the warmer months.
