Basil Thai Cuisine-ballantyne

The food at the restaurant was enjoyable, but the service was terrible. The server had a bad attitude as if the food was given to us for free. Adding insult to injury, she charged a 20% gratuity for a party of 4. This was a rip-off and I will not be returning to Basil. I would much rather dine at Rice and Spice or Thai House in Charlotte any day. The worst part was that the table behind us had a server who was overly friendly, but when we asked for assistance, we received a cold, dismissive response.

We went to Basil Thai at Ballantyne couple of weeks back. It was our first time at this location, we usually visit the one in downtown and expected a similar experience. But to our disappointment, the service and food were extremely bad. My wife is a vegetarian and we ordered her a red curry with the side of fried rice and stressed no meat or egg. The fried rice came with egg and when asked to replace with no egg they mentioned fried rice can't be made without egg. This is the first time I'm hearing this and to top it off, they said it's the management decision that fried rice will always include egg as part of their initiative to standardize the cooking process to make all dishes consistent across all locations. Such things if any should have been noted on the menu and should be told when we ordered the food. After couple of back and forth with the manager(I should say pretty rude encounters) we left the restaurant and top of it had to pay for the food we ordered and didn't even receive. This is a very bad experience on a birthday spoiling our whole day and wasting a hour long commute to this place. Definitely not going back.

I went to Basil today and thought I was going to get the same service as I did all the years of coming here. Today will be the last time I come here, as the food was not what I remember. I got the Thai stir fry, it was greasy, and salty. The egg rolls are not like I remember and the sauces tasted generic. There seems to be nothing special or authentic about the food now. They gave us the lunch menu then charged more for the food. When I asked why the prices online for lunch were less, the waitress said because that’s online ordering. So, in my mind, I was like same food different price. Then at 4:10 pm EDT they sat a couple and gave them the diner menu….hmmmmmm. Online it state diner start at 5. The atmosphere is not the same, it was just really off. The waitress was nice but they don’t have many people working.

Unfortunatley I cannot leave a positive review for my first thai food in over 4 years. My advice is CHECK YOUR CHECK and ORDER before paying or leaving! We ordered by looking at the lunch menu online and ordering at the Charlotte location. When we picked up the food we paid without reviewing our order. When we got home we realized we had been charged DINNER instead of LUNCH prices (we ordered at 2 PM). We also were not given jasmine rice (or ANY rice for that matter) with our 3 meals. When we called to complain (and spoke with Renee), their only resolution was for us to go pick up the rice (a 15 min. drive) and no rebate for being overcharged nearly double lunch prices. We tried twice to call to be compensated with no fair solution. We feel cheated. The food was actually good, but our first time trying the restaurant (my brother lives close by) will be the last. They need to focus on customer service.

This place is a complete scam. I ordered a lunch meals from Renee while my family from Spain was visiting. I ordered my meal at 2:30 then they charged me dinner prices. When I called them they told me I get the dinner prices which it still wasn't even dinner time. They also forgot rice for every meal. They offered to fixed nothing but rather give me rice if I drive 45 minutes back. Renee was unwilling to make any amends for there mistakes. I would not recommend this place
