My wife had veal kidneys, I had a fish and seafood dish. The table next to us had steak tartare and hamburger (which looked home made) and both of them looked good too. The meals, including 1 coffee and 1 fizzy water were around 50 Euros.
When we first arrived about 7 pm there were only a few full tables and initial service was OK- they got us a baby chair, although some straps were broken so it wasn't the safest. Things went downhill from there. Despite me trying to get someone's attention it took quite a while to order any drinks. Then it took another 20 to 30 minutes to get someone to take our order. I asked 3 different people (speaking French) and they all said they would come back. By the time they took our order they had run out of one of the specials that we'd wanted. I particularly asked for the kids menu to come as soon as possible for our 6yo but we then waited another hour for his food to arrive while we were fed. We didn't end up having the kids pudding as he was so tired by then we had to leave. I politely asked We asked for the kids menu to be removed from the bill but they refused and even charged us for a syrop l'eau on top because we asked for this instead of a capri sun. Food was average. Would not recommend!!
Had a lovely meal here last night. Was looking at the menu board outside when one of the waiters approached offering help, and translated some of the dishes, although the menu board also had English. I had duck breast served with pommes dauphinoise and green beans. He had a burger and fries. Both delicious. What made it a very pleasant experience was how friendly the staff were, and we also got talking to the next table of 3 French people and shared some of our travels with them and discussed the English beer drinking versus French preference for wine. Great night full of laughs.
This restaurant is in a lovely spot and was very busy. So we were grateful to get a table. Starters were really nice, the scallops and the salmon terrine. The main however was not good. Both our duck breasts were tough as old boots with no pinkness. My husband politely complained to a young waiter. He took it away and brought the same dinner back! We pointed this out to him and he argued with us in front of other customers! Apparently you don't get pink canard in France, purleassse. For that reason, we give it one star.
Although the welcome was good and the staff perfectly charming the food was not special. We chose a mixed salad which was fairly indifferent and the dressing tasted like a well known bought bottle. I felt I could have produced a better one myself. There are much better places to eat in Chartres
