Cash only! Short wait for soggy chips and decent but over breaded fish. Not setup to eat in, take home and eat cold. Plus $36 for 2 pieces of Halibut and chips - you do the rest.
My Wife & I try to get the fish & chips from Fricks at least every other week. The staff are friendly, the food is great and the prices are extremely reasonable. They just have a couple of booths for eat in & most of the customers are takeout. I have yet to go to pick up fish when there wasn't at lest 3 or 4 other people in line. The wait time is always very short to.
Out of the 2 fish and chip places in Chatham, Fricks' and Lil Julies, Fricks' is by far the best. The have hand cut fries and their prices are excellent. This is not a sit-in restaurant. This is a hidden greasy spoon behind a gas station with a couple of seats available to wait while your food is cooked (unless you called ahead to order). That's not a bad thing! Personally, I much prefer take-out and the family who owns the place are super nice and friendly.Unfortunately, I do have to agree with other reviewers about things getting soggy on your way home from the steam of the food and if you've had them put the vinegar directly on for you ahead of time. The flavour is still amazing, though.I've had the Boston Blue special (always too much food for me), the haddock and the halibut. For a gal who can't normally finish everything on her plate, this is no different - there's a lot of chips and the two-piece meal is generally more than enough. Though the Boston Blue 3 piece special is a great value for even more food.My husband always gets the shrimp, fish and chip special - the Fricks Special - and it's HUGE!I'm not a fan of their gravy, though - and I love gravy, generally.Downside - they're only open until 8ish (usually a little before) and not open on Sundays - though I've never found a fish and chip place that was.
It is high time they installed a debit machine; after all, it is 2017, not 1917. I wanted to order fish, but had to change my plans and go to another restaurant because I, like most people, do not carry much cash. They do not accept debit payments in this fast-paced era. I will not be returning.
