The service is the worst I have ever experienced in London, the staff are too busy grooming their past sell by date self to actually pay attention to customers. Waiters for 45 mins to be told that what I ordered was not available and then another 45 mins to be told the replacement was not available either. Avoid at all and any cost.
I usually have a great time at this restaurant for drinks and happy hour. However, some of the waitstaff can be a bit arrogant, which is unnecessary. I ordered cheesy chips and it took 45 minutes to arrive. To make matters worse, the bill was incorrect. The final bill was £70.88, but my friends had already paid £27, so it should have been £43.88. Somehow, it ended up being £58.88, including optional gratuity. I was disappointed by the service and the condescending tone of the presumed bar manager. I have never had a bad experience here before, but tonight was unacceptable.
I came to this restaurant on Sunday 18 November 2012 early afternoon, with a cousin of mine, we had the special menu 2 meals for £11. I had the BLT with chunky chips and a coca-cola. My cousin had the sausage and mash with a coca-cola, but the portion looked rather small embedded in a fancy plate. The BLT, with thick white toasted crunchy bread, with tomatoes, lettuce and bacon, the content was insufficient, this needed another two slices of bacon, there was too much tomatoe, and there is no substance in eating lettuce. The chunky chips were good and filling, we both found the bottles of coca-cola were over-priced at £2.70 each. We did not have a dessert, or starter or any other extras. We received the bill with an unexplained amount which stated optional, I worked this out as a service charge of 12.5%, we gave it. But with additional add ons it becomes a basic expensive snack lunch. The service was efficient, there were a few other diners when we were there. The decor is in yellow, this American style diner is spacious with background music, and has comfortable yellow bench type soft seats. They do reservations, and close late in the evenings, and cater for parties and there is a bar area. A nice venue, but will have something much different next time.
I have been a fan of Profile for quite some time now. I used to frequent the Italian restaurant, Spiga, that was previously located here. Profile is a combination diner and cocktail bar with a fantastic decor. It is always impeccably clean and has a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is diner-style but offers delicious food at very affordable prices, especially for being in central London. Their happy hour from 5:30pm to 7:00pm is a great deal, and they also have other meal specials available. Personally, I can't get enough of their chicken fajitas! The cocktails and wine selection are both excellent and reasonably priced. The music adds to the great vibe, and the bar staff are exactly what you'd expect from a bar diner in Soho. However, I have noticed some inconsistency with the service. The bar staff can be a bit reserved and hard to get attention from. The servers are usually busy but very charming, although they don't seem to receive much support from the manager, who rarely smiles or helps out. Overall, Profile is a good spot with tasty food and drinks, but it could use some stronger leadership to improve the service experience. I would still recommend giving it a try, just be prepared to assert yourself at the bar.
