Prosser's On The Beach - Clarence

A friend and I visited for lunch the week before Christmas and were really surprised that we were the the only guests for the entire lunch period - maybe this was an early indication of what was to come??We had both been fairly regular attendees at Prossers and the fish had always been exceptionally good, unfortunately something appeared to have changed.We had oysters Kilpatrick to start and they were quite different as the sauce contained cream!!!!Our main courses were nicely cooked and seasoned but not up to the previous standard that we were accustomed to.Overall a touch disappointing.

For our last night in Hobart we decided to try Prossers. The view over the Derwent was nice and food was perfectly good - we had the seafood wrapped in pastry and the beef cheeks. But it seemed quite over-priced, as did the wine, and the atmosphere was lacking. For a Saturday night in the peak holiday season it was surprising to see only a third of the tables occupied. Perhaps the locals aren't overly impressed either. No reason for a return visit.

My third visit and whilst it delivers there is no gold on the menu. Overall a nice experience with nice view but there is something lacking for the price. More menu options needed and some different choices. Service good but standard.

I used to eat at Prossers all the time back a while ago. Hadn't been for ages so went back with my wife with some apprehension (afraid of letting down my wife and also my memories). I needn't have any fears. Entrees were fine, Mains of Salmon & Fish of the day were great and dessert (another old favourite - Warm Cherries with Ice Cream and Almond Praline - sumptous !!! Very good service, great views of the Derwent, nice beer and wine list - perfect !!!

Never had a bad experience hereThey serve the best beef cheeks in town and have a varied selection of entrees and mains.
