Taste like it's cooked to fast and then sliced and finished. Not the way to do bbq. People are nice so I may stop in again and try a burger.
NOT GOOD No smoked taste. Service was good but the BBQ was very disappointing. It did not have a smoked taste at all. we left there an when to dreamboat BBQ at 232 sunflower and purchased bbq and tamales that was MUCH MUCH Better. next time we are going to try dreamboat BBQ ribs.
Devine intervintion. We were on a 10 run from Texas to Nashville and back and this was an accedental stop. I just turned off the highway to find some lunch and this is the 1st place I saw. You have to stop at a joint that advertizes BBQ and the Blues since 1924. I am a spare rib man but the babybacks they cook up are excellent. I will surely be back to the Cross Roads agin someday to give this a try.
We were leaving Jackson heading to spend the night in Clarksdale to soak in the community committed to the blues. Tweeted out where is the best place to eat between Jackson and Clarksdale to some heavyweight foodies. Wright Thompson almost immediately responded, Abe 's . We were on schedule to make it in plenty of time. Left home at 5 am so we were hungry for sure... But we were slowed down by some crazy hard rain. Elated that we made it by 1:30 published close time is two). We were turned away at the door at 1:30. Rudely. With a full restaurant. On a Sunday where there is not much open in Clarksdale. I understand if you are a fine dining restaurant and you wouldn 't have time to prepare the food properly and you take reservations, but a BBQ joint? I know this review will not diminish their business because from all accounts their food is fantastic... But in the spirit of southern hospitality they failed miserably. They may need to remember that it is how you treat customers that determines the longivety of your business. Disappointed .
Abe's gave me a true taste of old-school Mississippi BBQ. I was inspired to visit after watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown, where he delved into the BBQ scene in this region, and even the chefs mentioned how hard it is to define their style. The atmosphere at Abe's feels steeped in history, with music-related photos of icons like Elvis adorning the walls, which really sets the tone. I tried The Big Abe sandwich, featuring delicious pulled pork topped with coleslaw, accompanied by some fantastic baked beans. Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and the staff were incredibly friendly. It made for a perfect stop during my long drive from St. Louis!
