Austral - Colac

I ate at Graziers Cafe and Dining Room. The medium rare rump steak was tough and lacked flavor. The only enjoyable part of the meal was the sauce and the fries. For $38, it felt like an overpriced "chips and gravy" dish.

This bistro was fantastic. We were traveling and this hotel was the top choice. The food was amazing, the staff was welcoming and eager to assist. I would give the pub a perfect 5 out of 5 rating.

The service was excellent, the ambiance was lovely, and the food was sensational. The ribs were the best I've ever had. Kudos to the Australian chefs!

We were basing ourselves in Colac for two nights to explore the Otways and decide d to have a family meal at the Austral. I would recommend making a reservation if dining at a weekend because they were pretty much booked out when we dined...on a Friday night. My wife has a nut allergy and they were great with no hesitation as to her choices that she was fine to have them. Menu options were good and selection of tap beers and wines appears pretty diverse. I settled on a Guinness on tap with my wife and kids sharing a jug of dead lizard Cherry Cola made with raspberry cordial. Staff were very friendly and service was quick. I ordered the Eye Fillet cooked medium with a Red wine jus, vegetables and chips it could have come with a potato Grattan instead if you choose , my wife had the Salt Pepper calamari, salad and aioli and our kids had Chicken Nuggets Chips and Fish Chips respectively. All were cooked beautifully. We splashed out and went desert also with a Chocolate Brownie Ice cream with chopped raspberries sprinkled around which was dense, rich and chocolatey, a panna cotta with a raspberry coulis which my wife said was light, flavoursome and delicious, the kids had two frog in the ponds after they checked with staff what colours the jelly was this evening Another tip is they have very comfortable and spacious built in bench seats against the walls of the restaurant, I recommend these for families with children because the kids were comfortable and happy the entire time.

A very pleasant restaurant that had only recently been refurbished. We had a good meal here: extensive menu with a lot of gluten free dishes included: gf beer also available.
