The food and service in riverview were very good. this was our second visit and we were only prepared for cash. one of our party requires a gluten-free meal (the last time was not a problem), but this meal provided a problem with nima check of the next-court, but not the mixed salate and salmon escape. we'll come back for another try.
Very disappointing, starting with the fact that we went for hudson valley restaurant week (hvrw) and they were “not participating in the last day.” there was neither on their own website nor on the hudson valley restaurant week – open table webpage. we only learned this when we waited for 15 minutes on our table (maintain) and then waited for the waitress to take our order (more minutes) at which time we requested the HVRW menu and then informed. the waitress was quite rude. the regular lunch menu is expensive and eat only moderately. with a window seat (to the west), the view of the river and the hills at the horizon is beautiful as they look over their parking space. there are better restaurants with better prospects.
We live in a distance from this restaurant, but we make it a point to stop when we are close. it is definitiw a 15 or 20 minutes away from the next autobahn. the kitchen turns out to be good food throughout and her vene bolognese is one of the best of any bolognese I've ever had. the service is professional, the ambiente pleasant and the view, along the hudson, is beautiful. the prices are also very reasonable. highly recommended.
Having arrived at a very busy time with tourists thronging to see the foliage, there was a problem with our open table booking...which meant that out table was not available. After some initial uncertainty the staff quickly found a solution for us to sit at the bar from where we were served promptly and with care. The food was all very good from Ricotta ravioli to a burger, and the deserts were excellent with several gluten free options including a very good Creme brûlée. When it came to pay the bill we were told that the owner had taken care of it in light of the initial problem with our booking. a very generous gesture thank you. We followed lunch with a stunning walk in the woods above cold spring. A great restaurant and a great day out from NYC.
