This place incorporates the two greatest things in the history of mankind rednecks and BBQ food into one finely run establishment. Redneck BBQ needs to be franchised. The rest of the world is missing out on this hidden gem that is buried in the middle of nowhere. I would give eight stars if I could.
Got the sampler... Good looked good. The pulled pork was cold ant mushy (like it had been overcooked). The ribs were undercooked, I needed to use a knife and couldn't pull the bone. They were also rubbery. The rest was unremarkable except for the Mac and Cheese which I'm sure wasn't made from scratch. I would not waste your time or money.
Located about 3.5 miles outside of downtown Cooperstown, this place is the REAL DEAL. Hands down the best meal we had in three days in Cooperstown. We walked in to a completely empty restaurant at 5:30, I guess they don 't offer early bird specials. : I was slightly worried that there wasn 't a single customer in there but it is slow season in the area until full on summer. Our waitress immediately apologized to us that it was her first day and she was still learning the ropes of the place, no biggie because she did a superb job throughout the entire meal. We started off dinner with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, wow! Perfectly crisp with a kickin rance sauce for dipping, the breading held up super well on every bite and they were very flavorful, I posted a picture of these. For dinner, my friend had the pulled pork sandwich and I had the catfish po ' boy and fire slaw (picture posted . The slaw was a beautiful red but not fiery , probably my only complaint. I 'm not sure what gave it the color, it was still delish......just not what I was expecting. The po ' boy was a great value at just $8.95 with smoked catfish breaded and fried on a soft and chewy bun that fit the piece of fish perfectly within. The walls are full of cool, vintage signs and a few will give you a chuckle. The bar area looked really nice as well. The restaurant as a somewhat rustic feel with wooden booths but is still well lit. I can 't wait to go back to Cooperstown and give this joint another shot, hop in your car if you are staying downtown and immediately get over the Redneck BBQ because there is very little within town that will top it!
Baseball teams beware!! We made a reservation a month ago, called twice while here in Cooperstown to reconfirm reservation for 50 people, 2 hours before reservation they cancel us and tell us they can't accommodate any more. Must have gotten a better offer. So disappointing and now we are scrambling. Best part, they didn't care at all! One of the worst experiences ever- do not go there
There isn 't a designated hostess stand, so you end up walking through the front door and just standing there, trying to get noticed by a staff member while also not being in the way of other customers. The wait wasn 't terrible, but there 's some organizational issues. We were finally seated at a sticky end booth, with small plastic cups (think Dixie cup) for our water and a roll of (DIRTY) paper towels to serve as napkins. I didn 't even want to think about the bare silverware on that sticky table, but I was starving. The menu options weren 't terrible, I 'll give them that I ordered a burger, some coleslaw, and some mac and cheese. The burger came with cheese (and the menu stated that there were several types of cheese to choose from), but the waitress never asked what kind I wanted on my burger. Afraid that she was going to put American cheese on it, I managed to snag the attention of a different waitress to tell her so she could hopefully get it fixed before the burger was done. My point being the waitress should have asked what kind of cheese I wanted, instead of saying yeah, if you don 't tell us otherwise, we use American . Speaking of the hamburger, the waitress did ask how I wanted it cooked, to which I told her I wanted it medium rare. She then told me that they don 't cook burgers any cooler than medium... are you kidding me? I 'm a paying customer and you 're not going to cook my burger the way I want it? What 's going on in your kitchen that you can 't cook a medium rare hamburger? Has me thinking it 's a raw meat/food safety issue. As for the coleslaw, it 's not your average barbecue coleslaw (i.e. with mayonnaise) it 's the type that 's made with vinegar. Doesn 't specify that anywhere on the menu. And it wasn 't even good vinegar coleslaw, so there 's that. The mac and cheese (served classily in a disposable paper dish) was probably the best part of my meal, and it tasted like the kind of mac and cheese you 'd find in the fridge section of your grocery store. There are plenty of other places in and around the Cooperstown area don 't waste your time or money here (I recommend the Blue Mingo, if you 're looking).
