Old Admiral Benbow Restaurant - Currie

While the dining room itself might appear a little ordinary, the view is superb, and the food coming out of the kitchen absolutely delicious! All items on the menu were very tempting, so if there are a few of you, good idea to share some starters. We tasted the chargrilled octopus with locally made chorizo, and it was just scrumptious. Also ordered an oldie but a goodie - deep fried king island camembert (forget the calorie counting on this one!). Our mains were the lamb rack, pork belly, and king island beef, and none of us were disappointed - delicious. The chef is originally from Mexico, and there were some lovely hints of this in our food. At first glance the Currie Golf Club might not be where you'd expect a gourmet meal. However, we were very pleasantly surprised and very much enjoyed our meal of local lamb racks which was up to the standard of better restaurants in capital cities (well, Hobart, anyway!). There are nice views out over the golf course and, of course, the rocky west coast of KI. You can't pay by credit card and need to get your drinks from the bar, but this does do credit cards and EFTPOS so payment shouldn't be a problem. Service was prompt.

This restaurant is inside the King Island Golf Club and offers a great menu. Even the locals tell you that this is one of the best places to eat on the Island - and they are right.We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and have hesitation in recommending the Old Admiral to all and sundry. The Golf Club also charges reasonable prices for the drinks and the whole venue is typically King Island friendly.Book beforehand or take a chance of missing out.
