I opted for the filet mignon, which came with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. It was a generous cut of tender meat cooked to a perfect medium rare, just the way I like it. The portion sizes were ample, and all the meals arrived promptly. If you're searching for a luxurious indoor venue for a wedding, this might not be the ideal spot. However, if you're seeking a classy setting that sacrifices a bit of sophistication for a fresh ocean breeze and a view that competes with any in Dana Point, Cannons is an excellent option. Our party had over 100 guests, and they can accommodate around 125 for weddings. My friend's wedding was a blast, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Regarding parking, I wasn’t sure if the lot charged a fee, so I chose to park for free on the street above the restaurant. Just be mindful that one side of the street has parking restrictions, while the other does not—so it's wise to check the signs. I’ve heard there may be plans to convert this venue into a bed and breakfast in the next year or two, but we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, I recommend heading over with a partner for a drink or a meal while soaking in the breathtaking view.
My boyfriend and I had been eager to try this restaurant, and we finally had the opportunity yesterday. We started with some drinks, as usual, and asked our waitress for her recommendations. We ordered crispy calamari, coconut shrimp, and fish tacos based on her suggestions. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the food and didn't even want to eat, but I was too hungry. The calamari was extremely rubbery and lacking in flavor—I would rate it 0 stars. My boyfriend enjoyed the coconut shrimp, but I thought it was just mediocre. The fish tacos were overly salty, and the fish didn’t taste fresh at all. It’s such a letdown that the seafood wasn’t fresh, especially since the restaurant has a beautiful view. I can't recommend this place for the food, and I doubt we’ll return. I’m giving this restaurant two stars solely for the view and the service; otherwise, I would have rated it lower if that were an option.
The only entrée available that night was the day boat scallops, which were cooked to perfection. The lobster sauce had a unique flavor, almost reminiscent of macaroni and cheese, and it came generously draped over linguine noodles. Personally, I really enjoyed this dish. The house Cabernet was pretty decent at $14, and the house rolls were a real highlight—crusty on the outside with a tender, soft inside. Overall, this was a solid 4-star meal with a nice view. I would gladly return!
Place was nice enough. Great view and the staff was friendly and reasonably attentive. Only fault was having to ask 3 times, and waiting 15 minutes, for them to replace a dirty plate and spoon. Bread was good. Clam chowder a bit thin. Lobster bisque very good. Jerk salmon very tasty and well presented. Would go back again.
We had a lovely family dinner at this restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and welcoming. There were some rumors going around that they are closed, but that's not true—definitely stop by! We’re also taking a mud pie home with us.
