YES, you have our tables and chairs ready for us at the extension side of the establishment since I made a reservation for the group.. I arrived early as usual to make sure no loose ends for the party. What makes me sad, perhaps not about the waitstaff, but the patrons who are at this establishment at an earlier time slot who happens to be seated across us. If I am not mistaken they are Koreans. I know as customers or patrons you have the rights, but I was disappointed that they Han Kang Korean Restaurant) allow these customers to smoke in the premises. So that was a little bummer for me. Second, the service was not up to par, perhaps it was the different Korean servers that evening. Hence our food came slightly slow to the table. All my friends opt for the KITCHEN to cook the order of the food. Perhaps because of this, may result in the delay . Third, I so wanted to order Janguh Gui $15.99) from the menu, UNFORTUNATELY they ran out of those. Big Bummer. sad face I ordered the LA Galbi $14.99) and Ggong Chi Gui Fried Mackerel with Beansprout soup) $8.99) Still like the flavor of the LA Galbi but the Fried Mackerel and Beansprout soup was a let down. Perhaps that evening was COLD, my order of Ggong Chi Gui and the BeanSprout soup was like lukewarm, and it does not come with any lemons or lime to take the fishy smell away. If I could recall properly these were what some of my friends ordered that evening : Beef Bulgogi $10.99) Chicken Bulgogi $10.99) Pork Kimchi Bokum $9.99) LA Galbi $14.99) Dolsot Bibimbob $9.99) Yook Gae Jang $8.99) Gohk Gae Thang $10.99) All in all, some of my friends like the order of their food. Perhaps some did not. I guess if I want to return to this establishment, I should call them in advance and specifically request for the Janguh Gui dish. The good about that evening was our servers though at first were hesitant, allow us, aka the group to have separate checks. For that, my review remains 3.5 stars
It's been awhile since I have had Korean food too long! I actually visited South Korean many years ago in my USAF days. But enough of the memory lane stuff and on to the review. I came in around 3pm or so on a Saturday and the place was empty. I was immediately seated and given a water and a menu. I wasn't in the mood to try something I wasn't familiar with so I ordered the Bulgogi. In a very short time I was given 7 little plates of sides and rice the main dish came out shortly afterwards. I was happy with the whole ensemble of food. It was very tasty. The cabbage kimchi reminded me of the same in South Korea which definitely says a lot. Afterwards I was given an iced drink and when I asked what it was she told me it was a sweet rice drink a perfect ending to the meal.
I wanted to try their short arm octopus on metal pan dish. This will feed good 3 people especially with that additional fried rice at the end of the meal is better than actual dish. For me, the seasoning didn't have flavor. Baby octopuses were little salty but honestly it wasn't that bad. I knew I will have a huge leftover but couldn't pass that fried rice for additional $3.99 I tend to like a strong flavor spicy food this dish wasn't spicy but just looked red. Ban chan... I thought it wasn't that great. It was cheap banchans, nothing like u get in Dallas or LA. I wanted to have a fresh kimchi but all they had was old ones. I wanted to try their Sam-gae-tang but ended up trying baby octopus dish. I tired it but it wasn't that impressive for me to order again. I have to say the fried rice part was the best.
This place certainly has the typical look and atmosphere of a Korean BBQ restaurant. You're immediately greeted with a certain thickness in the air (no doubt from the BBQ greases) and there is a distinct smell of the previous days dining emanating from the various furniture. Don't let that deter you though, the food here is genuine and authentic. For example the bulgogi beef isn't drenched in super sweet bulgogi sauce that many places tend to do. It's just lightly flavored and comes out on a sizzling platter. The outside looks a little run down, but if you're willing to venture inside you're definitely in for a treat. Service is extra friendly and they sped things up for me since I had to make a flight and told them I was in a little bit of a hurry.
When I bring neighbor Sam to M-Mart for his kim-chee fix we most always have lunch at Han Kang. He lived in Korea for 11 years and loves the soups they have to offer; he says it reminds him of home. I would always get bi-bim-bop or bulgogi until I was convinced to get a soup. I have tried three different ones, all are wonderful and have settled on the Kim-chee tofu soup (on menu with pork) as my favorite. I like all the sides that come with the meal except the acorn jelly and the egg omellete cubes not because they are bad, just not my cup of tea. Nice service, always making sure everything is OK, and a full bar for those who want a cocktail or beer with their meal.
