I ordered the classic chicken caesar salad for £15.95 and enjoyed it, but felt it was at the expensive end. It was essentially just romaine lettuce, chicken breast, parmesan, and dressing; nothing extraordinary. My friend's beetroot risotto with goats cheese and pak choi cost £19.95 and was also deemed overpriced, especially considering the portion size. There were not many diners and little ambiance when we visited for lunch on a Thursday. When it came time to settle the bill, we had already decided not to return, and the unexpected 25p charity donation added to the bill further solidified our decision. While we both support charitable causes, we feel that customers should be informed or asked before adding a donation to the bill. It seemed a bit sneaky. We did donate in the end, but there should be more transparency about these practices. Additionally, the small amount could make customers hesitant to speak up for fear of being seen as cheap.
Finding myself in Tideswell alone and having dined at TMY several times before with my family, I decided to treat myself and have lunch there. Opening hours on the website say 12 noon till late. I walked in about 12.15 but it felt like I was arriving early as the set up was still going on and windows were being cleaned. I was asked to take a seat on the sofas to have a drink before ordering food. I wasn’t asked if I wanted to sit inside or out, but given it was such a beautiful day I said I would prefer to sit outside. I ordered the fillet steak which on the menu says it comes with twice cooked chips, confit tomato, portobello mushroom and watercress. I ordered my steak medium and for me it was a little on the rare side but well seasoned and delicious. I also ordered peppercorn sauce which was really good, thick and plentiful. I was brought a small bread roll before my steak arrived. On reflection I should have kept this to mop up the peppercorn sauce. The chips could have been better for the price £32.95 I would have preferred more homemade style chips. These felt like frozen. The promised watercress was not on the plate I didn’t ask for it as I was hungry and didn’t want to wait but if advertised it should be there unless you tell the customer you don’t have it. Other diners sitting outside appeared to be enjoying their meals and it all looked very appetising. Service was friendly but could have been a little sharper and more polished. In conclusion, do go, the food is excellent but check that all the elements of a dish are available.
Beautiful restaurant and bedrooms with friendly and attentive staff. Would highly recommend for both food and an over night stay (or longer). Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
The food was lovely and would definitely recommend. It would’ve been 5 stars but we felt rushed, food was brought out before we finished even trying our bread to start. We were seated at a very small table which wasn’t really large enough for the Sunday roast. Larger tables were available the whole time we were there, we didn’t ask to move as assumed they would be taken and it was too late by the time food/drinks/plates etc had been served. Would definitely recommend to prioritise Sunday roast diners on the larger tables.
We booked Sunday lunch for four people, lovely place and extra special food with excellent service. We couldn’t recommend this place more and very reasonable priced. We will be going back again soon. Food drinks: Excellent fresh produce, very well cooked and served. Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury, Great value
