My God, this is how Italian food should be cooked. No surprise as the Landlord is Italian himself, but you have to go and try it out. Sunday lunch superb as well, delicious and very generous portions. Even if you fancy just a pint, there is no better pub.
Really would like to book for this Sunday lunch but not answering the phone to take my booking Been trying since yesterday.
Very very popular and luckily we got the last available table. Really need to get there for opening time or pre book if possible,? Especially if you want to be by a roaring fire. Our meals were first class, very tasty Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and a very good chicken in a brandy and Stilton sauce with loads of very tasty cooked veg.
We love this place!! It 's weird, quirky and absolutely oozes atmosphere. We live an hour and a half away near Lincoln but come several times a year and never, ever regret making the journey. The beer is great (though I wish they 'd stock 'Old Peculiar! and the food excellent. I could rave on for hours about the food, actually. My wife is a brilliant cook and all so often I find that eating out is a big step down in quality. Not here, though the Xmas menu we had today was simply the best I 've ever tasted outside of home. The roaring log fires and Xmas decs really added to the ambience and, as always, the staff were marvellous everyone was given a warm, friendly welcome and their approach greatly added to the overall warmth of the place. I feel I ought to be saying something critical but, frankly, this is just too good a pub to try to find things to quibble about. If you like quirky and atmospheric then this has to be one of the very best pubs in Yorkshire. I just wish we lived closer and could make it our Local!
Had the Sunday lunch here the beef and was hugely impressed with it. I was recommended to try it and was very glad I did! Delicious local beef, cooked perfectly and with lots of flavour. Quite salty which I rather liked. And no skimping either plenty of meat on the plate. Thought the pub had a good atmosphere if anything, it was slightly too loud for my liking but this is a very authentic local pub which had clearly made a point of its good food. The village itself is pleasant to walk around, though it’s a very small place. I would highly recommend this pub. I really liked the service too, the staff were very welcoming. A great place!
