Afternoon Tea At Mclarens On The Corner

Although the waiter was quite friendly, our table wasn’t properly set up in advance. We had to request several items, including teaspoons, sugar, hot water, jam, and cream for the scones. The food was enjoyable overall, but the mushroom-filled profiteroles came with a chocolate cocoa topping that was somewhat unusual. The prawn and sweet chili toasted sandwich was also good, but these dishes contributed to an overall impression that the food was a bit on the sweet side. The afternoon tea was generous, and we even took some home to share. The scones, in particular, were delicious.

The food was decent, but the area was quite noisy, and the service was a bit slow. I expected the server to be familiar with the items on the afternoon tea stand, which wasn’t the case. I’m also not a fan of the 10% service charge that is automatically added to the bill. Additionally, our bill included charges for tea and coffee, which should have been included in the afternoon tea price. Unfortunately, they couldn’t modify the bill because they needed a manager’s approval, and there was no manager present.

Had a wonderful evening with my boyfriend on ‘date night’. Food was excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive. We were sat in the restaurant upstairs. Decoration/interior was beautiful. Restaurant was super clean and the background music was great. Would highly recommend.

The food was lovely but I think being a quiet Tuesday night the waitress was not very attentive, felt like waited a long time for service delivery of wine. If we needed anything or mustard waited so long food was cold by time it came!
