Located in the heart of Downton Edmonton and on Jasper Avenue, finding a parking for this restaurant can be a challenge. There were several of us and we ordered different options and sampled each other's food - nothing exciting but doable, We agreed the PanneKoeken or Dutch pancake was the best among all of our dishes. The Avocado Bene was just Eggs Benedict with sliced avocados - nothing special. Please note you may order English muffins or Dutch Rusks or one of each. I personally prefer the English muffin over the Rusk as the Rusk was hard and crisp and cutting through it can be tedious and messy.
I was prepared to be underwhelmed - I had no need to. Granola and yoghurt with fruit never looked or tasted so good - see the photo - and the grapefruit juice was first class. Great breakfast, not too expensive given the location.
The style of pancake served here is the pannekoeken, which is a thin large pancake. They do not have poffertjes (mini pancakes) on the menu, so if that is the food itch you want to scratch this restaurant won't help. There are also many other choices on the menu. lots of eggs dishes. Oatmeal and fruit choices are available. The portions are large and service is diner style, and quick later on a week day. We had a pannekoeken and egg plater and both were good and as described. This is not a place for fancy food, so if your looking for something like that chose another spot.
Our first visit to de dutch was spectacular. A unique find with amazing international cuisine.if you are looking for a quaint and unique lunch spot, this is it. Great decor and service and a variety of pannekoeken-whixh is a dutch pancake served sweet or savory. This is not your run of the mill lunch place. If you feel like you need to take a mini break, go for a leisurely lunch to de dutch. Also the cheese tostie is a great option for kids-basically an upscale grilled cheese. Prices are fair.
This is an interesting local-chain restaurant, serving dutch pancakes. These are not Dutch babies. Rather they are thin, flat, crepe-like pancakes. They are large, filling a good-sized plate. There are many choices of toppings and fillings. I had the apple and cheese; he had granola filled. I would recommend a plain pancake with a topping, rather than the ones that have additions incorporated in the batter. The tea was really hot, which is always a pleasant start to the morning!Service: The staff move around like lightning, which makes for very efficient service. Unfortunately, when we were there, they didn't have time to stop by tables and make inquiries. I would have appreciated chatting about recommendations.
