Contribuisci feedbackThis is the type of place a spicy meat lover searches for. I'm a die hard foodie and live for some good ribs and muskaki. This was recommended to me by a friend in Edmonton and WOW! I only ordered 3 items, Chuma Chuma (spicy...More
I really wanted to love this place. Being a lover of Indian cuisine. my husband snd I decided to try Khazana. As a huge lover of a great shrimp vindaloo, I was excited to tey Khazana's version. While the waiter said it was hot...that was an understatement. It was way too hot to eat. My husband ordered the beef vindaloo and had the same issue. Now, he's a lover of spicy food and even this was too hot for him.My dish consisted of 8 shrimp in a large soup bowl of sauce. Other vindaloos I've had had potatoes and a great sauce. not this one.It was hard to enjoy our meal with our mouth constantly burning.Needless to say we turned down the offer to take the remainder home.Maybe this is the authentic vindaloo, and all the other restaurants were serving a westernized version. I don't know or care. I'd just like to be able to eat and enjoy my meal. Will we be back? Not likely.
Walking through the door, Khazana is a very classy restaurant, with beautiful decor and friendly service. My husband and I called in for an early supper prior to a show at Rogers Place, and the meal was incredible - the best Indian we've had since arriving in Canada 3 years ago. We were presented with poppadoms and chutney when we were seated, whilst choosing our meals from the menu. They have their own 'house ale', which is definitely worth a try - and goes perfectly with the meal. We opted for the awadhi seekh (minced lamb with spices and grilled in a tandoor), and a butter chicken. Sharing 1 portion of coconut rice, and the most amazingly fresh garlic naan, they were the perfect accompaniments. Definitely worth a visit - and we're planning to return, this time with the kids in tow.
I went there as part of a group of about 20 people who were at a conference. While yes it was a Monday night and therefore not busy I came away with a very good impression of the service. We all ordered individually with a variety of requests but everything came at about the same time and all our frequent requests for drink re-fills were quickly responded to.The room itself was interesting and comfortable. But it was the food that was the most impressive. This is an Indian restaurant with a nicely varied and interesting choice of items. If I had any complaint it would be the difficulty in making decisions. Sooooo, I can only directly comment on what I tasted. When you sit down you have nice light papadum at the table served with a mildly spicy mint dip. It was a nice way to start the taste buds going. As an appetizer I ordered the mishkaki which is high quality beef bbqed on skewers and again with a mint dip. It was a simply wonderful way to start. A brilliant combination of succulent Alberta beef with south Asian spices. Not too spicey and anything but bland! For the main course I ordered the RAJASTHANI LAMB because I wanted a sauce. Take note that items cooked in the clay ovens apparently have less sauce than those cooked in the clay pots.Anyway, it was succulent! Rich, flavourful, tender and divine. They have goat on the menu as well and I had advised a colleague to not order it because it can often be tough and stringy. However, goat can also have a nice strong and unique taste and so after having the lamb i regret not ordering the goat because it likely would have met the same high standard.Everyone afterward was similarly impressed and so if you are in downtown Edmonton and want full flavours of Indian cuisine, then this is the place to go to. Reasonably priced as well!
First, but not last visit to this downtown East Indian restaurant. Visited with work and was very impressed. Excellent ambiance with two fireplaces. The buffet was the best EI I have had in Edmonton! Very fresh salad bar, and wide variety of dishes even for the vegetarians. The cauliflower dish, as well as, the tofu dish were amazing. Highly recommended!
