I went there with two friends on a Saturday for brunch. The restaurant was very quiet for a Saturday morning. The restaurant decor and cleanliness were pretty average for typical Chinese restaurants in town. Service was ok. Hot tea were refilled whenever we lifted the lid of the teapot (indication of an empty teapot). This is not your usual Chinese restaurant in town where Cantonese style (southern coastal regions of China) or Sichuan style (famous for their spicy food from the central region) Chinese food were served. This is a Shanghai style restaurant serving cuisine originated from the central coastal regions of China.I've seen online they also have an English menu serving Western Chinese food (chop suey). Between the three of us, we shared a xiao long bao (steamed mini pork soup dumpling;) a pan-fried pork dumpling; a sticky rice roll; and a Shanghai fried noodle. Price was fairly reasonable, it works out about $15 each including tax and gratuity. The xiao long bao and pan-fried dumpling tasted exactly the same, which was weird. Both of them were under seasoned and the texture was not smooth and glutinous enough. Both of them were juicy. The wrap of the xiao long bao was on the thick side but at least it did not burst when picked up with the chopsticks. Ginger in the vinegar were missing for the xiao long bao. Both dishes were piping hot and the pan-fried dumpling was crispy and nicely fried. The Shanghai fried noodle was also under seasoned. They made this dish a vegetarian dish instead of having pork strips fried with the noodle. The texture of the noodle was good though. The sticky rice roll was a pleasant surprise. The fried dough tasted fresh and not dried at all. Interestingly. it's not the typical sticky rice roll where fried dough, pork floss, and finely diced pickled vegetables were wrapped by sticky rice. For this one, sugar was sprinkled on the fried dough making this savory dish literally sweet. Having said that, the flavor blended in quite well and I would say I did enjoy this dish.
First time. excellent service and exceptional food. All little more expensive than your usual Chinese but far more flavors and we'll worth the difference. Will definetly recommend to anyone I know.
Out of the way place. Had team dinner out large group of 10. Over all great food. Bit on pricey sid and smaller portions. Service was fast. Great steamed dumplings!
I dropped in here in January for lunch. This is a large restaurant but there was only 1 other diner there the entire time I was there. I ordered the lunch special which was a beef stir fry. It tasted ok, but my stomach was bothered the next day. The thing that stood out the most was the lack of cleanliness in the kitchen area. The front of the kitchen had a piece of glass in front to separate from the dining area. It was filthy with splattered food. It wasn't as if they had a busy lunch seating and couldn't get to it to clean it. I wouldn't go back.
