We settled in and placed our orders. Since we weren't rushed, we enjoyed great conversation with our friends. Our lunch arrived promptly, and everything we tried was delicious and beautifully prepared. The atmosphere in downtown Ennis was lovely, and we would definitely return. Plus, the prices were very reasonable.
A few days later, after a long day at Yellowstone, we were in the mood for a good meal and decided to stop at Tavern 287. The restaurant was nearly empty, but Bruce, the owner, informed us that he couldn’t seat us because all the tables were reserved and would be filled within the next 30 minutes. We were about to leave when I thanked him for the wonderful cake from a few days earlier. Once he remembered us and learned it was my wife’s birthday, he kindly found us a spot at a window table! We felt incredibly special and appreciated. Now, onto the food! My wife ordered the homemade ravioli, which was hands down the best ravioli I've ever tasted. Her beet salad looked amazing, although I didn’t try it because I was too busy enjoying hush puppies and braised elk with risotto. The food was nothing short of fantastic. I expected the hush puppies to be ordinary, but they were anything but that. The flavors of the elk, along with the demi-glace and spices in the risotto, showcased that both the chef and the owner are truly exceptional at what they do. I left wondering how a restaurant of this caliber could be in Ennis (no offense to Ennis!). Overall, we had a wonderful experience with a super nice owner and fantastic food. What else could you possibly want?
Tavern 287 is a cozy little spot, so I highly recommend making a reservation. The food was fantastic, and the desserts were even more incredible. If you're in Ennis, a visit for dinner here is definitely a must! - Sam E.
5 stars all around. Consistently the best place in town to eat. Bruce is the man and is extremely nice. The guy does it all.Heads up you will need a reservation if you’re planning on going any time during the summer.
Hush puppies were undercooked with batter left inside. We ordered wagyu steak well done; it came out medium rare. The steak texture was strange, could not eat it. Spaghetti and meatballs were good, and staff very friendly.
