Die Eule - Essen

I stayed at Hotel Fabritz for six weeks in August and September 2016 and ate at Die Eule regularly. Very tasty local food, generous portions, reasonable price, friendly atmosphere, many locals go there every other day. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in Essen.

The district of Ruettenscheid in Essen boasts hundreds of cafes, restaurants (from simple to fine dining) and a couple of Kneipen (pubs) have survived. Die Eule (the owl) is one of them. Friendly service, a warm welcome, good beer and hearty food. Thei is not fine dining nor is it a place for a romantic evening. It's noisy withou being overbearing, there will be people sitting behind the bar drinking beer and discussing stuff, there are people eating one of the generous portions of hearty food, there are people playing cards. It's comfortable. You can sit outside which is not that appealing, the tables are on the pavement (the advantage for smokers is that they can light up there). Inside there are tables and benches and high chairs and tables. They have he soup and the Eintopf (stew) of the day and a variety of other dishes. We enjoyed curried sausage with French fries (curried sausage is a bit of a cult dish in this area, it has nohing to do with any Indian dish, it's basically sausage doused in curry sauce. I had roast beef with fried potatoes and a salad - altogether a satisfying meal in convivial surroundings. We will definitely go back.

You are looking for an authentic neighbourhood pub in Essen Rüttenscheid?This old fashioned Kneipe is always very busy with locals. It's quirky, and you have to get over the German Schlager music, but it's fun for drinks.It's in a hotel and owned by a family who successfully runs this place for ages. Great for beers and schnaps. Don't miss this spot when you're in for a real Ruhrgebiet's pub.

Very cozy and well maintained gastronomy. Served various beers and a good kitchen. Here you will find the good old Ruhrpott charm. Very recommended.

The food here is very delicious and freshly prepared. The hostess and staff are very friendly and attentive. Come back.
