Fortunately I 'm sitting in the 'Heavens ' so not too chilly but with autumn around the corner someone needs to tell Tim about how his profit is being squanderd by very poor heating/cooling management.
Recommended and featured in the Good Pub Guide and Good Beer Guide. As is often the case with Wetherspoon pubs this is set in a beautiful historic building. Attractive gardens to one side. Known for amazing value for both food and drinks. Children welcome but not dogs. This is Devon Tim Martin!
I went with my sister, brother-in-law, his family and my niece. We went in separate cars and my sister was able to leave her car across the road. It offered free parking for the rest of the day from just after 4pm onwards. When we arrived, it was very crowded and noisy which didn't please my niece as she is autistic. But, we managed to find a bit of a quieter area at the back (though it was a bit dark). As there were quite a few of us, we decided to put two tables together. The menu said we could either order from the pub's app or order at the bar. There wasn't much for me to choose from, as I'm a vegetarian and have to eat healthily because of my health. In the end, I had the grilled halloumi salad with vegetables while the others except my sister and niece had chips with either a burger or a fried egg and sausage. My sister had one of their curries and my niece had cheesy chips with nachos. All our meals included a drink. I had a bottle of water, which a glass of ice and slices of lemon in it. Everyone else, except my niece (who had an orange juice) had some kind of alcohol. At nearly £9 for me, I thought it was on the bit expensive side, as I only tend to have small meals. But, it was quite filling for me.
We popped in here early on a Sunday Evening for a bite to eat and a few drinks. There was plenty of room to have a choice of table but busy enough to give a good atmosphere. We chose on of the high tables on the ground floor. If you choose to go upstairs there is no bar so either have to use the app to order or walk back downstairs to the bar. There is an outside area that was very pleasant and can get the late afternoon sun. We ordered both our food and drinks at the bar and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food didn't take too long to come and all was very tasty although we notice the size of the pizza in the small plates range is now a little smaller. A slightly above average Wetherspoons, you always know what you are getting.
A beautiful place with good food, good prices, good people and last but not least: a good bathroom. There's a lot of space, so you can come in large groups. We were 20 people and went there twice for breakfast and once for dinner, and there was always enough room for everyone.
