This is the place to avoid the taxing terrain. Inside the traditional building are multiple rooms equipped with chairs and coffee tables. Toilets are available but not a dedicated disabled one. Staff are not multilingual but understand the names of their products. Prices are reasonable and service is good. Need milk to go in your english breakfast tea, no problem. The castle site is worth a visit and the cafe is essential.
This is a small cafe which serves drinks and snacks on a small terrace with a great view of the surrounding countryside. We retreated here after the walking tour had quickly proved hazardous because of my arthritis and balance issues. Good coffee and a delicious liqueur restored morale. The liqueur I think was almond, and recommended.
We were part of a group and the wine/liquor and food tasting was pre-arranged. We were made very welcome by the owner and his staff, who were very friendly. You could choose from a glass of sparkling wine or a fruit liquor (the fruit chestnut was particularly good). Cheese, sausage and pieces of cake were available as were several types of almonds; ginger, sesame, salted, chilli, etc. All this while sitting on a olive and fig surrounded terrace overlooking the medieval hilltop village of Castelo Rodrigo and the surrounding countryside. Peace and tranquillity at its best and we were certainly not rushed.
Our tour with Viking River Cruises included a free sample of the almond liquor. This is a pleasant place for a drink and snack for those (like my wife) who wish to skip the somewhat strenuous tour of the town. It is comfortable and has great views.
There is a shop at the entrance and then several small areas inside and outside to have a drink and enjoy the views
