It's quite charming and cozy, but I was very disappointed to learn that they do not make any of their baked goods or cakes in-house. Aside from some sandwiches, everything else is purchased from external sources. It's a shame that a quaint place like this isn't baking their own bread and cakes. They advertise their food as homemade, but I guess they mean someone else's home. Disappointing.
We absolutely love Barleycorn! We are also big fans of the new decor. Shelby and her team are all very friendly and go above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and appreciated. They even allow dogs, which is a great added touch.
I haven't been to Barleycorn in a while, but I was pleasantly surprised by the new garden cafe. The food was as excellent as always.
Lovely space being used well. The homemade cakes make the journey worth while, always fresh and delicious. Locally sourced produce which is always a bonus. Such a friendly place no matter what age you are. I cant wait to try their afternoon tea, have seen it go by on previous visits and looks so inviting. The prices are spot on. A real gem in the town.
We visited for a 6.30pm roast dinner slot on 12th August. Choice of beef or pork. Locally sourced so can be different according to supply. Amazing crackling with the scrummy pork, the beef was tender and tasty. Too many Yorkshire puddings, mountains of vegetables and crisp hot roast potatoes. Endless gravy and sauces. We took our wine as Shelby doesn't have a licence yet. Strawberrys and cream was fresh and rounded off a lovely meal. We sat in the private courtyard. Allowing for social distancing. A lovely evening. Thoroughly recommended.
