I'd been wanting a grilled cheese sandwich and some tomato soup and I immediately thought of Crave, having eaten there many, many times. As a matter of fact, I've recommended Crave to lots of folks. However, it turns out the chef refuses to make grilled cheese sandwiches! They have bread (even very nice, fancy bread) and they have lots of different cheeses) but the chef, apparently, was above making such a low-brow sandwich and refused to do it. I would have had it with bacon and a side of tomatoes and/or avocado if they needed to jack the price up, but to refuse to make it came as a real surprise. I was craving it and couldn't get it. The wait staff there is great and I'll miss seeing them. I suggest the chef climb down off his high-horse! It's not becoming to him or to Crave. Any future cravings I may have will be satisfied elsewhere.
I've been dining at Crave since they opened, which I think has been about 3 years. I have never had such wonderful, tasty food anywhere! This establishment is top notch! Service is always great. I would highly recommend Crave to anyone! Warning.... once you go, you will have to return!
Upon entering, you might be uncertain about what to expect due to the restaurant's small size and laid-back atmosphere. However, the service was exceptional, the menu impressive, and the food was fantastic. We will definitely be returning.
Our second time at Crave. I had the meatloaf again. Awesome. He had the chicken thighs wrapped in bacon with a bourbon glaze. Mine came with mashed and green beans; his with cheddar grits and green bean casserole. Everything was delicious. This is homemade to the max. The presentation is first class. Our waiter was very knowledgeable; attentive but not aggressive. A most pleasant experience again. Will definitely return.
However, onto the food. The hash browns were oily and greasy; I've had less greasy food at diners along I-5 in California. As for the meat lover’s omelet, it was very disappointing. Where was the meat? There were more grilled onions and a few mushrooms than anything else, and maybe a half slice of bacon and a quarter of a link of what appeared to be turkey sausage. There was no flavor at all. I even took it apart to examine it closely. There was just a tiny bit of cheese, and the two eggs were medium-sized—I've been cooking for 40 years, so I know my eggs. All this for $9. I had asked for a biscuit instead of toast, which would have cost an extra dollar, but the bread was terrible. It didn’t even compare to anything from Kentucky Fried Chicken. And I won’t go into the details about the so-called California omelet. Next time I’m craving a good breakfast at a reasonable price, I think I’ll stick with El Mambo in Cape Coral or IHOP in Fort Myers. Save your taste buds and your wallet—choose somewhere else!
