Plastic utensils are ok for a picnic but wrong business decision for a sit down restaurant. Many friends have said the same thing. That change would not dramatically increase your business cost and would do tons for your reputation.
So my wife and I just bought a home in Franklin near Cool Cafe last month, and last Friday night we went to Cool Cafe for the first time. We could not have been more impressed with everything about our experience! The food was wonderful, I got the beef tips and rice with jalapeno cheddar grits and cauliflower hash browns. It was all perfect! My wife got stuffed chicken, wedge salad, and a loaded baked potato. The potato was huge, and she talked all weekend about how good her food was. I'm a little spoiled when it comes to margaritas, as the 16 oz frozen gold margarita at Pancho's Place on the other side of Franklin is my all time favorite margarita in the world, period. Having said that, Tim's Margarita at Cool Cafe may be my second favorite, and that's really a great compliment considering that I've tried a whole lot of margaritas around Franklin and Nashville. Speaking of Tim, owner Tim Ness had a good presence throughout the restaurant the whole time we were there, chatting with his customers and making sure all was well. Our server, Sarah, took great care of us the entire time as well. The atmosphere and setting inside is also very relaxing and comfortable, and the jazz music coming through the speakers in the ceiling was just the right kind of cozy jazz and just the right volume. Needless to say, we are already looking forward to going back to Cool Cafe in the very near future. Highly recommended!
Great Steak Night! Friday and Saturday nights are fantastic at Cool Cafe. The place is completely transformed into a fine dining restaurant with tablecloths, wine glasses and soft lighting. We had a 9 oz filet, 14 oz ribeye, 2 wedge salads, grilled asparagus, and cauliflower patties. We ordered a bottle of Shiraz to drink. I am telling you, this was a great meal for a great price! Our steaks were perfectly cooked to our specifications. Our server, Sarah was very attentive. We had plenty of room to be socially distanced from other customers. You should really check it out some weekend soon! Reservations are recommended but not required.
The service at this location is very fast. The food is amazing. I highly suggest this location if you are looking for some good southern cooking.
After placing our orders, we were not informed about missing items from our entrees. Two of us ordered the steak wedge salads for dinner, but they arrived at least 20 minutes before everyone else’s meals. The menu indicated that a deviled egg would be served with the salad, but it was not included. When I asked about it, the server claimed they no longer serve it due to high egg prices. It would have been nice to have this communicated to us in advance. Despite the missing item, the salad price remained unchanged. When the rest of our party's meals finally arrived, the disappointment continued. The catfish dinner was supposed to come with hush puppies—one of the main reasons we ordered it—but they were missing. When we pointed this out, the server informed us they were out of hush puppies, again without mentioning it when we placed the order. My husband ordered a 14oz ribeye cooked medium, but it came out very well done. There's nothing worse than paying a premium for a mediocre meal and a disappointing dining experience. We had high hopes for this visit since we enjoyed it so much before, but sadly, we would not consider returning to this restaurant.
