The choice of fillings plays a big part in determining the overall healthiness of the meal. There are a wide range of options on the menu and the seasonings are flavorful. This restaurant offers a unique experience, whether you choose to eat at the market or standing up with friends and family. The portions are small, making it more of a tasting experience or a snack. Those accustomed to the foot-long sandwiches at Subway may need to order double portions, making this meal quite pricey.
During Easter weekend, my friends and I visited the Fremantle Markets and decided to try the brisket Bao. It was cooked right in front of us, fresh and piping hot. It reminded me of my travels in Vietnam. The vendor also offered a small discount if you purchased three or more Baos.
I had never tried a bao before, but I will definitely have it again. It was a lovely, light bread or dumpling style open bun that is hard to describe but absolutely delicious. I had the pork belly bao and it was divine. I highly recommend trying it if you are at the Freemantle Market Hall.
Tried to order from them but they continued to cancel my order. Extremely annoying and no explanation given. NOT RECOMMENDED.
I'm an unabashed fan of bao (Chinese bread usually with a filling . Not the closed up or sealed kind you find in dim sum (or dian xin restaurans, which are sometimes known as yum cha restaurants. I like the open bao where you can see...the stuff that's makes up the filling. This stall at the Fremantle Markets (closer to the fresh food section serves a wide variety of bao. They includ a vegetarian offering, char siew filling, belly pork, bulgogi, and one the day we visited, a roast duck bao. The range in cost from $8 to $12 (soft shell chilli crab and discounts are offered if you order three or six. Service is fairly fast, unless there's a big crowd (obvious eh? and the food is pretty good. We tried the char siew, belly pork and bulgogi (chicken and it was delicious. There's lots of other foods to try nearby so don't fill up. The coffee served at the next door stall is fabulous.
