This is the restaurant for you !! It does help if there Spanish speaker with you as it is solely Spanish cliental. Must have eaten five different courses of outstanding quality food over our 3-4 hr stay. of course some lovely wines which can be very pricey. None the less a fabulous evening with Spanish Scottish friends !
We have been vising El Toston almost every year for over 15 years, but I fear it’s no more, its apparently been taken over a restaurant chain and the staffing levels have ceased to exist, and the food on offer although the menu is strangely similar is simply no match to what the old owners produced. The old El Toston won numerous awards in the past for its tapas, service, food , ambiance and atmosphere , a visit here was always one to savour. No more it appears , we should have known the moment we arrived when there was almost no one in the place at 8.30pm on a Friday night, normally it would be heaving. . The few dishes we did order were a total disappointment , as an example the Padron Peppers arrived within 30 seconds of ordering, inedible had been deep fried , I asked how this was so, to be told they are prepared in advance and kept warm etc. no more to be said.
Came 5 min after it opened for lunch. One couple at a corner table apart from me. Took 5 minutes to get the attention of the waiter to ask about the menu, another 10 to order, another 20 to get my sandwich to go. It cost 9E and did not live up to neither price nor waiting time.
First visit to Fuengirola and found restaurant by chance. Looked appealing earlier in day and decided to go back later. We hadn’t booked but hoped an early arrival would be beneficial. Had mains x 2 and 2 desserts. Two lovely lamb based ‘amuse bouche’, followed by Suckling pork and aged steak. A section of perfectly cooked vegetables and ‘chips’. Lemon tart and red berry cheesecake to finish. The service was excellent and food beautiful.
Always go to El Toston when in Fuengirola so very disappointed to find it had changed hands name etc. Food just wasn't as good, croquetas had the state and texture of Heinz toast-toppers if you remember those, quite tasty but just not right. Fish was disappointing, foie-gras was overcooked. Place is still nice, service fine, people friendly, amazing selection of beef if you're feeling flush!
