Praia Formosa - Funchal

Beautiful location, ambience, drinks, food and staff. Maybe too good, exacerbating my post-holiday blues! Sad I don’t get to visit Praia Formosa today and see the lovely Pedro and co. Thank you to all the team from Laura Chambers and family

This bar and restaurant wasn't too far from our hotel. We had stopped here for some cocktails after a walk along the beach and they were very good, so we decided to go back for a meal. We went on a Thursday evening around 8.30pm. The restaurant was busy outside but not inside. There were two people serving and one preparing the drinks. Our drinks order was taken very quickly but it took about 25 minutes to serve them. Our food took around 50 minutes to arrive. I would probably have given a lower rating but the food and drinks were worth the wait. We tried the Scabbard, the shrimp skewer and a burger and all of which was excellent and very tasty. The staff work very hard and were attentive and courteous. Well worth a visit if you have time.

Such a shame. Has everything to be a lovely place but staff is rude, crude and primitive. Music is way too loud and when asked to put it slightly lower so we could hear the sea and have a chat they took offence and refused. The outside tables also have a publick walkway going through it as it's a lovely place to walk/jog/etc and the loud music really is a huge inconvenience. Needless to say we won't be returning.
