Visited three times, either for lunch or dinner. We sat outside on the terrace and was nice to see the world pass by underneath. The lunch menu was very good both weeks we went. In particular the guinea fowl was exceptionally good, such great flavours. The wine that you get with the meal was also very good. For the evening meal we had the vegetarian pad Thai was excellent, again real depth of flavours. The starters of the bao buns and the tacos were both excellent. Finally the chocolate mousse with cardamom ice-cream was very good and plenty for two after such a great meal. The red wine we chose by the bottle was also excellent. Service was friendly and efficient. This is right up there as one of my favourite restaurants in Funchal.
We were here 2 years ago when the restaurant was located in the rooftop with a beaituful scenery and esthetic it really felt like a special place to be at. This year we went there and straight to the rooftop to be told that they only serve cocktails there and that the restaurant was moved donstairs to the 3rd floor. A bit sad about the fact that we weren't going to be dining at the rooftop but nevertheless excited about the food. Going down to the 3rd floor on our way to the restaurant we were faced with a long hallway with the hotel rooms i felt quite sorry about the people staying in this floor as it seems rather unsafe especially with all the stories you hear about strangers breaking into hotel rooms (tiktok based news). When arriving to the restaurant it was rather a small venue compared to the rooftop and in my personal opinion not as pretty. We got there we looked over at the menu to see that not only our favorite dishes had been removed but also portion sizes were smaller and more expensive. We were noticing that a lot had changed and we didn't want to risk ordering a lot of stuff as we were apprehensive about all of these changes. We started with water and a few starters and where should I begin... we ordered the meat baos to be served two small pieces of meat and what I can describe as two brush strokes of sauce and three tiny pieces of shredded carrots (the meat came with hard joint pieces and un eatable). Despite the food, we arrived there at 8.30 and were only served at 9.45 having tables that arrived after us and ordered wine being served first and were out of the restaurant first than us and they told us that we had to wait. I can not blame the staff as they were clearly understaffed and all these were not their fault. I'm not even taking into consideration that if you are there to drink cocktails (very few selection and not amazing) you are better served and have an amazing view and space whereas paying for food (more expensive) you become secluded from that environment, which puzzles me. I've been to many restaurants (in hotels) that were fabulous and despite being pricey everything was amazing (ex.: a vista, o basilico) with this one i was a huge fan of it and left not comming back and resourcing to finishing my meal as soon as i was done with the starters.
Chef Faria is truly gifted at creating masterpieces with food! We first encountered his talents while on a food tour and immediately reserved a place at his dinner counter for later that week. We were not disappointed. I would highly recommend this restaurant for not only the excellent cuisine but also for the welcoming staff who clearly work well together and enjoy each other. It was a pleasurable evening all the way around.
I visited here with my cousin on our last night in Funchal. The vibe and food were amazing! Food portions were good enough to share and the cocktails are absolutely amazing in the bar upstairs. The view from the restaurant of Funchal is amazing! I would definitely visit here again x
