Downeast Restaurant - Garlands Crossing

The Gold House Restaurant in Bedford is owned by the same people as Fung Lum. We recently had lunch there and found the restaurant to be a little outdated. The menu offered a nice variety of options including combination plates and luncheon specials. My husband ordered the fried rice, egg roll, and honey garlic ribs special while I chose the fried rice, egg roll, and lemon chicken special. The egg rolls were delicious and generously sized. Both of our meals were satisfying and the portions were perfect for lunch. My husband enjoyed the meaty and tender ribs, while my lemon chicken was flavorful and not overcooked. The luncheon specials were reasonably priced at $9.95 each. We would consider returning to Gold House Restaurant for Chinese food if we were in the area.

The food at this restaurant is always delicious. I think I will have the combo L, please and thank you, with an extra egg roll on the side. Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum!

I typically enjoy the food at this restaurant, but my recent takeout order left me extremely disappointed. I had ordered a meal with several items, one of which was sweet and sour chicken. When I got home and opened the order, I found sweet and sour shrimp instead. Unfortunately, I am allergic to seafood, so I had to discard the entire meal that I had paid for. When I called to inform the restaurant of the mistake, I was simply told "sorry" and asked to return the order. However, since I live 20 minutes away, I did not want to make the drive back and forth. The person on the phone even insisted that I had ordered shrimp, which was not true since I cannot consume it. This mix-up was quite big and I am grateful that I realized it before consuming it. I am currently feeling quite disgusted by the whole situation.

This was once a great place to have Chinese food in the Windsor area but that was under different ownership. The food tastes like it was just dropped from a plastic bag into a deep fryer and then onto your plate. The service is non-existent. The prices are far to high for what you get in return. There is nothing here that will bring me back.

Don’t waste your time. Service was absolutely non existent. Food was nothing to write home about. We will not be back.
