Had the lamb rump which was melt in the mouth, with dauphinois potatoes which were cooked to perfection. Why can’t all pubs serve food of this quality?
Excellent food and drink, outstanding staff quick and well organized, even though pub very busy at times
A must visit for non-fussy foodies. So lets get the menu out of the way- an ever changing wall of chalk boards in the bar area, which seems to offer around 7 meat, 7 veggie/vegan, 7 mixed starters/sharers, 7 desserts and a selection of light bite options. Awesome!! Having said that my partner who is a Veggie who doesn 't like vegetables has always been able to find something that she fancies. Their sunday dinners are brilliant but i would also recommend visiting on a mid week evening for something a little different where you can 't be sure what is going to be on the menu, but you can be sure to recieve a plate of delicious homecooked food which will fill you up, washed down by a tasty pint or two. Loads of covered outside seating next to the train station platform, the indoor tables can get quite full, even though there are loads of tables and rooms its a popular spot and rightly so. I hope they keep doing what they are doing because its a treat to enjoy.
We like the Victoria alot. We live some distance from The Victoria so we don't as often as we would like. So bank holiday Sunday we decided to pay a visit. I had the mussels and TOH had the Tomoto and Mozzerala Tart. Both dishes were as usuall very nice. For me first time that I've been served mussels with a knife and fork. I did ask for a spoon so I could eat the sauce but our server must have forgot as I had to go back up. Also I didn't get another dish to put the empty shells anywhere. We got the feeling that our server didn't want to be there. On the whole despite that we had a pleasent early evening. Nice selection of beers especially with a tasting paddle.
Having stayed over due to work commitments I ventured round to this old fashioned gem. Staff were very pleasant and shows they take pride in the service and quality of food they provide. The service was very efficient after placing order at the bar. There is a great choice of ales and range of food on offer. Would definitely recommend this place.
