(posted on a forum). I still wanted to give it a try. Big Mistake! I made the reservation with owner. When I arrived, they couldn 't find it (same thing happened last time). So I argued with the hostess bc we had driven an hour. She said ok as long as we didn 't stay long so I told her since we had a kiddo with us we won 't. We ordered the crawfish etouffee and fish. I hurt my tooth on the etouffee 's rice and told the waitress who seemed drunk or drugged (mumbling and shaky). She said I know. The microwave is broken. Why are they using a microwave for rice? Then she brought dirty rice but mixed the hard old grains of white rice in there! I had to spit it out. My husband had dirty rice on his plate and had to spit out his too. When we paid the $75 bill, she lost our credit card after charging it. Looked in the billfolds and couldn 't find them. I called the owner the next day and she found the card in the back. She said she mailed it to me that Tuesday. She also said she placed a partial credit for the experience on my credit card. I confirmed and she had the correct credit card and mailing address. It 's been 12 full days and no partial credit was issued and my credit card still isn 't here. I 'm getting all of my mail and it took 2 days for a card from Jarrell to get here this week, so that 's not the issue. I then contacted Williamson County Health Dept. for a copy of the report to see it bc I didn 't know if the shut down was a rumor. Sure enough, they provided the full report for open records request portions attached here. Shut down due to imminent health danger for dead and live cockroach infestation and food at bad temperatures. I asked the owner and she threatened me to be very careful in text that I should not share the information. Horrible night and really feel bad I begged my husband to give it another try. Next time, I 'll listen to people and look at reports if a restaurant was shut down immediately or better yet, stay away.
Heard good things about this place, the atmosphere was nice and in a cute historical building. However it took us 3 hrs to get through dinner even with knowing exactly what we wanted ahead of time before the waitress came to the table each time. She forgot our drinks a couple times and our bread, it was delicious though. I don’t think it should be an extra charge but that’s another day. While we got sat before many others upstairs we were seen way later than others and tables left before us even though it was only 2 of us with simple orders, no dessert, never even offered it actually. We were afraid to ask cause it took 30 mins to get even water. The biggest issues we had was the fact that all their prices are wrong, every item on our bill was at least 50-90 cents more than what it was listed for. It’s not about the price it’s about the principle of it, list the item for the real price. This had nothing to do with tax either, a drink was listed for $11 on the menu but the receipt said $11.44 for an example, and we were also charged tax on top of their higher prices. It’s the oddest thing I’ve never experienced before, just be transparent guys jeez! Our entrees were good but not worth the 3 hour wait and mediocre service. Maybe be a while before we return here
Food was excellent. Hubby had the Red Snapper, I had the shrimp. Both excellently prepared. The chef’s potato choice was also excellent. Husband loved the etoufee’, I enjoyed the pecan/brie salad with yummy balsam vinaigrette. Meal was pricey, but portions were generous, and we actually brought enough home, which we ate the next night. It was even more delicious, and nothing leaked oil after heating as some restaurant leftovers do. The dining area was beautifully decorated for Christmas.
This was mid to late afternoon on a sunny day and we sat on the upstairs deck overlooking the downtown square. We had the house wine and fried calamari which was served with bread and a garlic infused butter that was to die for! The service was prompt, the atmosphere friendly and the appetizers were wonderful. This was our 1st visit to Georgetown and starting at Gumbo's was the right choice! I would certainly put this on my list of stops for any future visit!
My wife and I went for the second time recently. On our first visit, we weren't all that pleased. This time we went for dinner and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp and grits, and it was excellent. My wife had the pan sautéed catfish, which she enjoyed as did I when she gave me a bite. Food was just terrific! The service was very good. Our only complaint was that they had someone playing music in a relatively small room. We had met a friend there and wanted to visit, but it was hard to carry on a conversation.
