While on the island you must try the local seafood, so my meal consisted of fresh Islay oysters and lobster paired with a few drams of Bowmore (when in Rome, right? While you're dining you get to enjoy a beautiful view of the harbour. Definitely a must during a trip to the Isle of Islay!
Good fresh seafood, great views and nice setting. The seafood is super fresh. Relaxed atmosphere dress up or go in hiking boots. The accommodation looked pretty nice too!
Good and a nice seascape We had a pleasant meal with nice views here. A mirror on the back wall helps even diners facing inland enjoy the vista. They served the excellent local oysters and we enjoyed the beetroot salad. Ordering steak in UK is chancy and we found it tough but that was our mistake.
Best food on Islay?Well it was the best we tasted...The tables have an amazing view over the bay and the food was of excellent quality particularly the seafood, as you would expect. [hidden link]
I came here as part of the whiskey tour I went on (see Scottish Routes for my whiskey tour review) and luckily for us, our B&B owner made us reservations. I watched couple after couple turned away because they were full and just packed to the brim. After eating here, I can see why. Short version: Delicious food; the service is friendly, if slightly green; and they have a before dinner drinks room that I loved. If you want a little fancier meal, this is definitely the place to go. When we arrived, the maitre'd asked if we wanted to go directly to our table or if we'd like to have drinks first. Since this was the day I first tried Botanist gin, I definitely wanted a drink first; it just seemed so civilized and just a nice social way to start a dinner where we may not have been able to talk to someone on the other end of the table. The before drinks room was so sweet looking, kind of like the front parlour of your favourite aunt but with an amazing view of the water. They also didn't seem to mind that we rearranged some of the room, in order for all of us to sit together. So extra points for being very mellow. The food was ::deep sigh:: so good. Most of us had steak and the Swedish men on our tour all wanted both the bernaise sauce and the peppercorn sauce, just in case the bernaise sauce wasn't bernaise-y enough for them. The bernaise boat was empty and seconds were requested so if you like bernaise, Harbour Inn's sauce has been given the Swedish thumb's up. They also had this chocolate dessert. I completely forget what it was called but it was delicious. Just sweet enough after such a savoury dinner. I think, normally, this is a fairly quiet restaurant, ideal for a romantic tete-a-tete but we may have been a little raucous, for which I deeply apologize. The service was excellent, if a little unsure of themselves; I think it was mostly because most of the waitstaff was younger, probably late teens, early 20s. Very eager to please and they all did their best, especially with as large a group as ours was. I would definitely go again.
