Today we were at Ellenika Traditional Greek Taverna on the Marina Pier at Glenelg.
Went there for my Daughters 20 birthday and had a table at the front next to a 2 piece band a Bouzoki player and organist .Ordered the meze and mains and listened to live music amazing atmosphere around the place with waiters very helpful and the food was plenty full.Would recommend the restaurant will be back for the third time and try the desserts a must .
We chose to eat here because the restaurant was listed in the Entertainment Book and it was close to home. With 3 kids - paying for expensive menus when you are unsure they will eat it is not a great proposition! However, my daughter chose Greek for her family birthday treat. We also had a Japanese student staying with us. Whilst not within the control of the restaurant, it was a shame that we couldn't sit outside on a beautiful summer night to enjoy the view - I am sure it would be spectacular in summer. However, they have a little corner of their restaurant which resembles a Greek Taverna and that was lovely to look at. I've been to the Greek Islands many times and I am partial to a bit of Greek food so I was looking forward to trying this restaurant for the first time. The service was great, the food came out quickly. The dips and pitta bread was sensational. For main I had the vegetarian Mousaka which was nice. It came with a Greek salad which was swimming (literally) in oil. My husband and our Japanese student had the pork souvelaki - both of them enjoyed it, but my kids struggled with the chicken yiros. I think they were expecting the same as you get from a yiros shop but it came with the same pitta bread as for the dips and it was cut into triangles. The chicken was in a separate bowl and covered in oil. They both ate the bread and a couple of lumps of chicken but my husband finished it off. I would be happy to go back just with my husband or other adults and try the Meze but I wouldn't take my fussy kids back again. The bill with the Entertainment voucher was $130 for 5 people with 4 drinks. I don't think you can complain for that. PS if you don't like garlic - beware.......
Large venue great for our group of friends. Live music as it was a Friday night, the service was attentive and helpful. As we were a large group we ordered shared entres and platters, the platters were generous and we took the opportunity to take home the uneaten portions.
