Goodale's Bakery - Grayling

Goodies by Goodale. This place is great. Do you remember Jane and Michael Stern 's book called RoadFood ? This is exactly the kind of place they wrote about. It 's got a ton of great baked good, including elephant ears, bear claws, fresh baked donuts, muffins, coffee cake, etc. There are about eight tables where you can sit down and eat. There 's coffee, of course, and also lots of bread and cake that you can buy and take home, if you can wait that long. Plus, there are pasties, of course (it 's Michigan! The other customers are old guys with hunting hats, locals, etc. We found this place one summer when we had to get off I-75 to find a bathroom for my daughter. They 've got this great sign painted on the wall of the bakery of a baker with a huge donut on a wagan that he 's trailing behind him. One summer we stopped in and they were serving birthday cake to everyone because they had their 35th (30th? can 't remember anniversary in business. Go. You won 't be disappointed.

Great Donuts. This place has the best raised chocolate covered donuts that I have ever had.Just make sure you ask them to put them in a box or else they will stick together and make it difficult to peel them apart.

The Best of the best. This bakery brings you back in time to the smells and tastes of what good bakes food should be Fresh is best and the staff is too!!! Mr Goodale always has a smile to great you with and if that doesn't do it for you Try a pastry or cheescake!!!!!!!!! They serve lunches from a counter that has their great Mac and cheese or Meatloaf or Cabbage rolls Yum!!!!

Wonderful!. Like any bakery, it's best to get there early in the day when goods are freshest, but even when you can't..still good: when you get there early, i'm not kidding the donuts are the best i've ever tasted. i don't think i'll ever want a bismark from any other store again, bcz theirs were just so much better...it makes the others all seem very dry. only thing i didn't care for was the apparent distribution of some political material left on tables in hopes of patrons taking the opportunity to check it out. Very one-sided and not something i personally think is appropriate. Of course i didn't need to read it. next time i'll know better.
