We ordered a flat white and a hot chocolate. I was surprised when they turned up in disposable cups. Not very green ! It is only a small place, surely they can wash up a few cups ! Both drinks were barely warm and I sent mine back to be heated up. It came back hot but I left it. It was obviously made with water and not milk. It was a watery, tasteless liquid, not the hot chocolate I was expecting.
Visited for coffee and cake early afternoon, Limited choice of either a muffin or carrot cake. Tea served in disposable cups with plastic lids. Disappointed that plastic spoons are in use, for RHS, I would have expected a more eco friendly approach. Surrounding area appears to be undergoing some transformation, the lavender beds need finishing, very dusty as lots of bare patches. Hopefully this will improve once planting is finished.
This Cafe opened about 3 Years ago and in a number of ways it checks all the boxes. It’s surrounded by beautiful surroundings including the Heather gardens. However, we had great expectations of the Cafe which, at face value, looks awesome. The fact it that it is or could be. The downer is that the pricing is off the charts plus doesn’t have any ordinary food, most mortals like especially the younger (under 10’s) generation. For example the Salads alone look like this: Oak smoked Jasmine Scottish salmon served with garden vegetables and herb salad £12.95 Torn spring chicken, cauliflower cous cous, roasted courgettes and sprouting broccoli salad £12.95 Heritage tomatoes, fine green beans and Sussex Slipcote salad £11.95 Allotment summer vegetables and carrot salad £11.95 So, the cheapest (for one) is nearly £12! We’re all for healthy eating and applaud this but a Menu with no real alternatives seems short sighted. We love Wisley and the area around the Cafe was sublime. But please cater for a wider psychographic and demographic!
Someone needs to learn some basic nutrition. What a lovely setting, but after trekking all the way out to this end of Wisley for lunch, we had the choice of 3 salads, but with no protein such as chicken, fish, veggie bean protein, or any carbohydrates. So literally just a plate of vegetables. Not my idea of a well balanced meal, and ridiculously expensive. The open sandwiches looked ok but at £8 each for one slice of bread and a slice of beef we passed. It equates to £16 for a full sandwich with nothing on the side. Someone needs to learn how to put together a main course containing protein, carbs and veg.
