These days, Dish primarily serves Mexican and Pizza with a smattering of other options. Our experience this week for dinner was mostly positive. Our waiter was polite and reasonable efficient, which is commendable considering he was the only waiter working and he was also helping in the kitchen. We ordered starters and mains, and the only negative aspect of the evening is we did wait about an hour for our meals and the starters arrived at the same time as the mains. Our table had Pizza, the burger, nachos and steak. All meals were very big and very tasty. Would recommend.
Well folks , I'm not sure about this place , its personnel are Indian , but they make Mexican/Texmex/Modern food , so there seems to be a bit of an identity crisis here.We chose to eat lunch , as is our habit , and we chose 4 entrees , to be served at the same time , tapas style. We chose the Calimari , Buffalo wings, Guacamole & Pork Belly , with a cranberry juice chaser.Water to the table was swift , followed by menus , and a verbal rendition of the specials. We ordered , as above , order taken , confirmed simultaneous delivery of all items.Wait for the first to be delivered was about 10 minutes , very reasonable , it was the Guacamole , and it was excellent , one of the best we've had outside of Mexico/Texas. The corn chips were good quality to match. This was followed by the Calamari , soft , not rubbery , could have done with a more robust spice , but very acceptable. A couple of seconds more in the deep fryer would have crisped up the batter to excellent. We were then presented with the Buffalo wings , with a Chilli sauce , but as some of you will know , my wife and I are Chilli heads from when the Earth was young , so these were not challenging for heat , but the flavour was excellent. The final presentation was the Pork Belly , with Scallops , a well presented , and quite exquisite combo , and whilst not a perfect dish , it was quite good. It needed 2 things to have made it excellent , a bit less well cooked Pork , and a touch more cooking of the Scallops , just on one side , a bit of caramelise would have made them delightful. So , would we return , most likely , there is promise here , maybe the owners need a bit of a shakeup , and a set of directions , but the chef shows potential , and the wait staff were good.
I went to The Dish hungry so decided to have the steak sandwich. Wow, it was totally satisfying and too delicious to stop. Took a little while for the food to arrive but not enough to be annoying.
The strong point of this restaurant is the waiting staff, especially a young lady who is very competent. The meal I ordered was supposed to come with capers ailoli but only came with ailoli. The chef was not concerned about it but luckily the young waitress sorted it out. My table companions were not impressed with their meal either. The red emperor was swimming in a sad miso and the meal was not consistent enough for my companions. Each main is around $30 and for that price we expect to be full. The menu is not presented as a common menu with tapas being proposed instead of starters. the main sections has about 6 different dishes. there is also a large vegetarian section (possibly small meals based on the price). Overall, we will not go back.
Paul does not disappoint. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. Staff are very friendly and attentive. One of our favorite restaurants in Gympie
