I wish I could fly or teleport to this place. The service from David and the rest of the staff was excellent - incredibly friendly and careful with any food allergies. The food was fresh, aromatic, and delicious. I asked for extra spice and it was cooked perfectly and balanced. The vegan dishes, including Vegan Rendang (made with jackfruit), potato and tofu curry, and tofu summer rolls, were all delicious. The flavoring and color of the Rendang reminded me of Korma with a warming undertone. Overall, a fantastic dining experience.
This restaurant does not serve authentic Indonesian food, and I say this as an Indonesian myself. The website claims to be "inspired" by Indonesian cuisine, yet the name of the restaurant is "Indonesian Cafe," which can be misleading. If authentic Indonesian food is usually rated a 10 in terms of flavor, this place's dishes would maybe be around a 4 at best. Let's talk about what I tried. The sate I ordered had a sauce with the wrong color, as if they used too much water and not enough herbs and spices.
I had not expected to find such a place in Harrisonburg, but was very pleasantly surprised! The staff is so sweet and attentive, the food is so tasteful, and came very fast. The menu is over 50% vegan / vegetarian, with everything clearly marked, and many gluten-free options.
Really good Indonesian food. Enjoyed a noodle dish, a rice dish, spring rolls, tempeh natural, and fried bananas.
