Finally, a place in Waikiki where I can enjoy Tonkatsu without needing a reservation. I visited this morning and returned for lunch. I ordered the fried rice plate from the breakfast menu and heard the chef confirm the order by saying "Tonkatsu." It seems you can order lunch items for breakfast as well. I devoured the plate of fried rice without taking a photo. I especially enjoyed the fried eggs on top. The Tonkatsu was not like the mall food court version; it was presented elegantly with salad and sesame-seasoned rice. You can taste the chef's dedication in the salad dressing. The restaurant is cozy and hidden from the street, but the service and food quality are outstanding. This place reminds me of the incredible dining experiences I had in Japan. I am pleased to hear that they plan to expand their menu and offer dinner service in the future.
The Fish Hook Cafe at Luana Waikiki Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. The location was convenient and the food was excellent. We enjoyed the Breakfast Croissant and Fried Rice Plate for breakfast, and the Poke Bowl and Black Bean Chicken for lunch. The staff, including Ki and John, were friendly and welcoming, providing great recommendations for activities. We truly appreciated the genuine connections made with the staff and look forward to returning in the future. Thank you for a wonderful experience! -The Yorks.
Amazing food. Very small seating area but pretty quick service and the food was excellent. My party of 4 had the mochi waffles, mochi short stack, French toast, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, bacon, blueberry muffin and coffee. Everything was amazing, exceptthe muffin was your generic (from a grocery store package) taste. I would say the waffles are the best, but you can't go wrongwith any of it!
The wait is long, took about 35 minutes to get an omelet to go. I guess this is expected granted that the kitchen consists of like 2 people and an electric griddle. My advice would be to peek in and if it seems crowded have a backup plan, unless youdon't mind waiting. Very tight area, likely won't be able to get a seat. With that being said the food was pretty good. I got anomelet and it was definitely better than the one I got at Eggs N Things. Good breakfast around here has seemed to be tougher tocome by than I thought. Overall I'd say my experience here was 3.5 stars but I'll round up.
