Mamajuana Cafe Woodbridge - Iselin

Went with a group of friends after already having eaten at another restaurant, wanted to get hookah and some drinks but the waitress informed us that we needed to order 4 appetizers if we wanted hookah only after we already ordered drinks. We decided to get up and cancel our drinks and the manager got furious and was blocking my friend while we were trying to calmly explain why and leave. We didn’t even get anything made yet it was literally seconds after, and we let staff know. He even said “What is wrong with you guys” and became aggressive. There was absolutely no reason for this manager to get like this we didn’t try fighting and were trying to explain and he went straight to 100 and seemed like he wanted to fight us. Who knows maybe he was drunk but that’s not professional at all. He was unnecessarily rude and it was our second time coming here, so what a disappointment honestly. Go to Mamajuana in Plainfield, you don’t have to order food to get hookah and drinks, the staff is better there. This specific location has clearly gone to trash.

On 9/16/23 my friend and I went to the Iselin location for an early dinner. Unfortunately I cannot recall the name of the waitress that served us but I can never forget the horrible service. I am English speaking only but my friend is Latina and communicated my wants in Spanish on my behalf but the every time the waitress came over she only acknowledged my friend and not once looked at me, in fact, she kept her back to me. I found this to be uninviting, unprofessional and downright disrespectful. Employee needs to be retrained or you risk losing more customers because today you’ve loss one.

Place was dirty, the manager needs better training on costumer service. They told us that in order to get a hookah we need to order 4 appetizers! What kind of business is that? Why do I need to pay for something I don’t want. Horrible place, don’t waste your time and money going there.

This restaurant always has a good atmosphere. Food is good but what we liked the most was our server, Christian. He was super friendly and made the experience all the better. He was attentive and a total delight. I can only say good things about him. Great staff.

I would like to share my experience as a family man coming to eat here.. the food was excellent. The natural juices were very well made.. the server was polite and friendly.. The food came out very quickly!.. The only thing that I can complain about was the loud music.. If you go here and you want to be able to talk to your family or friends or children while you're eating, try to sit towards the front where they have the booths.. Don't let them sit you in the back near the DJ.. the music will be too loud for you to be able to talk.. The other thing that I didn't really like was the birthday songs. Every time someone had a birthday song, the DJ played a very loud birthday song along with the servers.. Don't get me wrong. I know it's people's birthday but it's a little over the top with the instruments and the DJ.. other than that I would definitely go back but not with my family.. it's too bad because they would get more business if they were more a family oriented restaurant /bar.. but it seems like they're trying to be a nightclub too much while people are trying to enjoy their meal.. One last thing that I personally didn't like is when you are finish eating and you want to take your leftovers they make it so that you do it yourself.. personally with the amount of money that I spent which was not cheap at all.. I would expect them to pack my leftovers for me like a higher end restaurant would.. and trust me, you're basically paying the same thing..I spent $160.. The least they can do is pack my leftovers.. I had to stop everything that I was doing and pack food in a tiny table.. To me that just looks a little low class.. But that is my opinion..
