Mad Mary's Bouley Bay Beach Cafe

What a charming little spot! We walked along the coastal path and discovered Mad Mary's in the bay. It wasn't too busy during our visit in the afternoon. We enjoyed coffee and cake, and the carrot cake was absolutely amazing—I suspect it was homemade. The service was quick, and our orders were brought right to our table, which was wonderful and allowed us to relax. Our dogs loved the walk and were warmly greeted by Mad Mary, the older of the two.

This charming little spot features an unexpectedly diverse menu, offering everything from crab sandwiches and burgers (including vegan options) to various sandwiches and rolls. The area has a quaint vibe, although it feels a bit sad due to an abandoned hotel next door. However, it seems that the hotel is in the process of being demolished, so this may be a temporary situation! The views are stunning, and the staff are friendly and engaging. Overall, it's a pleasant place for lunch, and you might enjoy a stroll along the rocky beach afterward. Just a heads-up: the restaurant is situated at the bottom of a steep hill, so make sure to have enough gas in your tank or charge your electric bicycle battery!

Unfortunately, this is the only spot in Bouley Bay where you can buy food and drinks, and it was closed when I arrived. The hotel has long been shut down, which is a missed opportunity for someone.

We had some tasty sandwiches, and the service was friendly. Nine pounds for the crab sandwich seemed a bit steep, but I did enjoy it. We were only disappointed at not being able to enjoy a cold beer at the end of our coastal walk, but I suppose the lack of alcohol helps to preserve the lovely family atmosphere.
