Our first visit to the Bartley House was a huge success. We went with friends on their recommendation and will definitely return. We love supper clubs anyway and we're not disappointed with the cottage cheese and kidney bean salad or the tub of cheese and crackers. Drinks were very good and reasonably priced. Waitstaff extremely friendly and funny!! Our menu consisted of whitefish, prime rib, shrimp and tilapia. All good!!! My only gripe was that we were seated by the kitchen door.
It was a little strange going to restaurant on a Friday night that had a security officer in the parking lot, but hey.... This place definitely had an old school vibe going on. The music they played for birthdays and anniversaries reminded me of being at my grandparents place-loved it! The food was good and the price was right. I ended up getting the fish fry dinner which came with 3 large pieces of fried cod, a salad, and a baked potato. YUM! I would totally go back to check out the other food items on their menu!
We joined friends at the Bartley House last night. Based on the reviews I had seen I wasn't sure what to expect and this was my first visit. We enjoyed it and I can't wait to go back and bring my extended family the next time they visit. It was quite a pleasant surprise to find this super club. The environment is definitely no frills so don't expect anything super fancy. The room is dimly lit and the lights do flicker every now and then. They do have cloth-table cloths and cloth napkins which are a nice touch. From the moment we walked in until the time we left everyone was very welcoming and friendly. You can easily understand why they have been in business for so long. The service and food are great! There was beer cheese spread and crackers at bar for our pre-dinner cocktails.,which was a nice start to our evening. We had brandy old fashions sweet and they were very good perfect. My husband had the prime rib perfectly cooked to medium rare just the way he likes it! I had the grilled tilapia and it was great and cooked perfectly as well. I upgraded my side to a twice baked potato which was very good however it did have a $4 up-charge which I was unaware of until we receive the bill. It was very good but I'm not sure it was worth an additional $4 for cheese, bacon, and sour cream. The meals also come with appetizer sets a crackers basket, kidney bean salad which was really fresh and tart and very good and cottage cheese with chives. I've never had cottage cheese with chives before and it was very tasty. The meals also come with a choice of soup or salad. The celery seed house dressing was unique as well and very good. It was a mix of sweet and sour. Honestly, I've never had dressing like that. If they bottled it and sold it I'd definitely buy it. So good. We ended the night with brandy ice cream which the presentation alone is worth getting once. It is lit on fire at the top and drizzled with brandy and cinnamon. It was one of friend's birthday and we split it for the special occasion. The server was super efficient and friendly and knowledgeable plus the bus service was extraordinary with our water glasses always filled and super nice! The prices were reasonable as well. Overall a great meal and super attentive service and great company. I'd recommend this establishments if you have never been to check it out especially if it is a special occasion. We look forward to our next visit! Hi
Third time I've been here in the last year, and it will be my last. Have been hoping that they decide to respect their customers by at the very least replacing or repairing the bar and bar stools (1970's era), but no still torn and embarrassing. The worst was that for the third time my steak was served cold and overdone. Thought it may have been a fluke, but tonight, everyone at my table complained about a cold meal. Manager offered to warm my steak up, but it was already medium well when I had requested medium rare. I know that years ago this place was one of the best, but I get a hotter and better done meal at the drive through of McDonalds. All I can say is the HobNob and the Cornerhouse in Racine are excellent. Both a short drive away.
